ive seen the term playcount thrown around a lot... does that mean you can keep track of how many times a song has been played?
and how do i access this feature??? i use ephpod and mmjb7 to tag...

sorry but it is only available for people using iTunes (mac-people)... hopefully when iTunes for Windows comes late this year windows users will get this feature too.

You are both correct.

iTunes keeps track of the amount of times you play each song, and when the last time each song was played. So does a Mac-formatted iPod. When you sync, the iPod downloads its data into iTunes, which then adds it all together.

MMJB doesn't support playcounts, thus, Apple has disabled this feature on PC-formatted iPods. iTunes for Windows will, realistically, support this feature, so I forsee that Apple will re-enable this feature when WinnieTunes is released. This will enable third-parties (particularly MC9, which tracks playcounts just like iTunes does) to take advantage of these features as well.

If they don't, this particular Irishman won't approve one bit.

....and to continue Kurt's comments. Why do you want playcounts?

Well, in MC9 (and iTunes) I can make smartlists that use the last-played attribute in my smartlist criteria.

So, for example, in my Commute smartlist which is an hours worth of tunes of specific genres that excludes certain artists and plays randomly, I could also add "haven't heard in 2 weeks". That way I'd alway have a fresh batch of tunes each day and my smartlist would essentially rotate through my whole library.

well i was wondering since i just thought itd be kind of cool to see how many times certain songs get played... just for ####s and giggles basically...

and by the way, what's MC9? and is it free?

MC9 is Media Center 9. It's one of the 3 apps out there (aside from MMJB--ecckk!) that support the iPod.

The programs each fall into different categories. Ephpod and Xplay are tools that allow you basically to upload and manipulate the tunes on your iPod (but not your PC). Although Xplay does have support of Window Media Player.

MC9 is an all-in-one application sort of like MMJB but much, much better. It rips, burns, tags, creats smartlists and playlists, plays all type of media (movies, images, audio) and most importantly, uploads to the iPod and syncs etc. The plugin for the iPod was designed with a lot of input from users (many here from the 'lounge) so IMO it's is the most feature rich iPod experience. It's also the fastest in my tests.

It also has TV capabilities and a number of other things that I don't even use.

Yup, it cost's money ($40) but for me it's worth it....
