Say you get a defective 16GB. You exchange it within 30 days, find out its defective too. Can you keep exchanging until you get a good unit? Or can you only exchange once?

As long as there is a defect, you should be able to exchange until you get a working one. Though Apple might be a little more strict then best buy. But stick to your guns.

I believe so when it comes to Best Buy (just got another 16GB from them today, and returning an unopened one to Apple). Apple doesn't really acknowledge the problem yet, so they'll give you a harder about it for sure. Best Buy could care less - 30 day for a full refund, no questions asked unless it's damaged somehow.

My recommendation for returning is to just get your money back and then buy it again at least at Best Buy. It is easier and less confusing if you have to bring it back again. I have had issues in the past trying to exchange an item more than twice. Also if you get the service plan it can get linked to the returned unit if they don't do it correctly which will result in major headaches if you ever go to use it.

Apple was reluctant to return my money for the first Touch. I bought the subsequent touch from Best Buy which still exhibits the problem.
Apple has yet to acknowledge the problem. It is just as likely that they will come back with 'that's just the way the screen is on the touch, deal with it'.
If there's no resolution in site within 30 days I will return this unit to Best Buy. Costco (when they get them in) is another option. They have a 90 day return policy.
Maybe if Apple gets thousands of returned touch units they will get the message and actually provide a product that works correctly. Remember... Stevie Jobs himself said 'same screen as the iphone'... well, this screen is anything BUT an iPhone screen.
