I am looking into one, but it seems outrageous how much you can spend for such a device. So let me ask you.

Is $400 worth it for a 16GB iTouch with all the features? I mean, I have the money, but it seems overpriced. :shake:

Id say yea because its the first media player of its kind but because of its 16gb compacity i would have 2 say no. 4 $400 bucks i wouldve expected at least a 30gb.

No I think the classic is the BEST bang for your buck right now, basically you are paying a premium for a new device design.

Of course it's overpriced. It's about double the price for similar players from other companies. I might still get one but that doesn't mean it's not overpriced.

After fooling around with it... hell ####ing no.

Yeah, it's definitely overpriced, but people also paid $600 for the iPhone when it came out. I wanted a touchscreen media player w/ wifi, and I had some extra money so I grabbed one.

Yeah, but at least you could get a ####ty over priced cell phone service and actually use the features on the iPhone...

about the price drop... (gotta say it again) lol

BURNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN !

Yeah, I know you get $100 credit to the Apple store. Again.

If you can afford it, sure. I'm loving mine, and it instantly turns my commutes on my WI-FI bus enjoyable.

After the issues with sound quality and screen that we have been reading about I'm doubtful that it's worth 400 dollars. That's a heck a lot of money to shell of for a device with half-satisfying capacity and quality issues.

I believe that it's won't be worth the money until next 4-6 months when it has been updated.

I am not sure about similar as there are besically no full 3.5" touch screen media players out. However the Sandisk Sansa View plays video and music on a 2.4" screen, and has FM radio and voice recorder built in and the 16 GB model is $200 and the 8 GB model is $150. however I do not think it will be out for a month or two. Amazon.com says itships in 3-5 weeks and I did not see it online at sandisk retailers.

$400 for a dumbed down iPhone? 16 gig only? Not worth it to me.

Well I don't think competitor prices are anything unusual when it comes to the iPod Touch, I mean the Sansa e280 8GB was $100 cheaper than when the 2G Nano 8GB was $250. Apple does and always will charge a premium for its brand. Though lately it seems like the apple quality has gone south... (aggy classic right out the door, screen problems with the iPod Touch, really the only one that went good out the gate was the nano.

If Sandisk offers me a 16GB before the nano does I might even switch brands.

Edit: looks like they already have..

C'Mon apple give us a freakin 16GB Nano.

The touch doesn't even interest me, It offers really nothing extra ordinary other than a updated interface its just about as functional as the classic/nano if not more limited due to lack of a click wheel. Wi-fi? Don't really care, I have a computer I can access 90% of the day anyway.

Not worth it IMO. The Classic is a far better iPod and the iPhone is the better touch device.

Again we have folks who don't understand financial markets and capitalism.

Worth is determined by the marketplace and not by individuals. Is 16gig worth $400? If people buy it the answer is yes.

The same goes for selling a home...it is worth what people will pay for it.

I assume the OP was asking a general philosophical question ( Is 16gig worth $400). If he is asking individual opinions...then I have no idea why he would do that. Who cares what I think or anyone else for that matter. I cannot establish the iTouch's worth and neither can anyone else.

If Apple sells a million iPhones at $599...then it was worth $500 to the market in general.

I also read posts that use terms like "ripoff" and "overpriced". Again these are meaningless in a Capitalist system. Someone paid over $700,000 for Bond's 756 homerun...is it worth it?? Of course...someone paid that much.

It'd be worth it, if everything did as it was supposed to do and hackers hack it. If hackers arn't able to hack it to add applications to the home screen in the near future, then it will have been a semi-waste.

It's a waste if it isn't hacked? Weird logic.

Apple will add applications to iPhone and iPod Touch. I think we can count on that.

There's a lot more at work here than capacity. The "worth" of iPod Touch has to take into account a lot more factors than that.

I think that it is overpriced, but it is a phenomenal device. Safari is great, and the Wi-Fi music store is a nice addition. Cover Flow is smooth, and looks amazing.

Aside from hacking, I'd think itd be VERY worth it if all the devices didn't have problems like the whole video problem and such. I mean, a few occurances of the problem is ok, but there appears to be so many.

You are aware that high-capacity flash memory (32 GB+) costs a lot, lot more than $399, right?

It's funny how people just assume by the numbers and not what's actually going on inside the shell.
