AppleInsider (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/09/15/ipod_touch_tear_down_with_high_quality_internal_ph otos.html) says, "The Touch's display attachment is completely different from the iPhone",may be the reason of the screen problems.

they could have different attachments and still be the same screen. i wish they had checked for mfg/part numbers on the displays to settle this once and for all.
