hey now that people have actual touches I was wondering how the wifi performs outside in the real world?

my dad's been saying that you have wifi capability but you gotta pay for connectivity most of the time like at starbucks or at Barnes & Nobles. is this true? and how is connectivity in the cities? connectivity in the subway? basically list wherever you can get connectivity lol

Panera Bread has free WIFI that should work. Not all, but some McDonald's also have free WIFI as well. Many coffee shops also have free WIFI in order to draw in more customers.

I've heard others saying that the Touch's wifi reception is a little weak, but mine has been fine. I have full bars all around my house.

I believe Starbucks has free wifi. Some places have it free, others charge you, all depends on where you go. Not sure about Barnes & Noble, though.

does anyone know if cities have wifi throughout or in some places? or is that just something that i made up to make the touch sounds more enticing. ^^' I just want to know where I can expect to use internet. just being able to use it at home isn't enough for me XP

Starbucks is free. Most are in the Bay Area are. Business usually offer it as an incentive to come to their business.

While I have yet to try it anywhere other than my house, it's been great here. Full bars, and fast.

i was told that if you bring a laptop to starbucks they ask that you pay for a drink and get some "internet minutes" along with your beverage. is this how it is now in most places or do they just give you free internet like sberger said to attract business?

There's a city by me which is trying to have free wifi throughout, as an incentive for people to move there.

There are very few cities that have "municipal" wifi. You have to depend on free hotspots at businesses or buying in at payed one.

In my experience wifi has never been free at starbucks you have to pay through t-mobile hotspot service, though I'm sure this varies pending different starbucks across the country. Now in case of the iPod touch and soon iPhone, you can access the iTunes wifi store and starbucks new purchase program for free and can browse apple websites I am told, but you can't access the internet at large at starbucks without having a t-mobile hotspot account.

well that's a downer...i guess having wifi doesn't mean you can actually access the internet right away. at least not outside your home :\

whatever I hope they fix those iPod touch screen and hiss problems and increase the maximum capacity by the next update in 6 months haha. Until then I'll be waiting.

Tully's coffee has free WIFI but for some reason I got an error when I tried to connect to it with my Ipod Touch.

In the city of Google's HQ and San Francisco, there is free Wifi throughout the entire city. Thank's to Google.
