I was really looking forward to this Touch. After owning it for 4 hours, I've decided the poor blacks are bad enough for me to get my $399.00 back from Best Buy. Even the example photos of the cars stink.

I'm very dissapointed!

I took everyone's advice and I exchanged it for another one...

...and I haven't taken it out of the box, yet!

What would be everyone's advice?
I got my Touch on the 13th, and It seems to be working properly, but I can't tell if I have the problem or not. Is the problem someone one will immediately see and go "OH MY GOD", or does it require a little experience on how blacks look on other LCDs? Also, is it either GOOD or BAD or are there varying levels of crappyness.

Someone who has the problem, post a link and lets compare.

The problem should come out and slap you upside the head if you watch a dark scene from a movie, etc.

Anything dark with lots of contrast will do the trick.

After seeing some new photos at Macrumors I do believe that good screens exist, I have, however been through two of these and still don't have one that works properly.

ah ####. Mine is defective too, just watched a dark video in a dark room and it was impossible to see what was going on. It was like watching a pirated movie where the dude was filming it with the camera.

Question- Am I going to have to make a reservation with the Genius Bar to return this or can I just walk straight up to the counter. If they make me wait in line at the Genius Bar im going to flip ####.

It turns out that my new touch seems to work just fine. In fact, I really didn't know that something else was going on with my first one. When I plugged in the first touch it came right up in iTunes and was already named (something like FQA iPod). It even had a few pictures on it and I could never get it registered. When I went to sync it, iTunes told me I'd be replacing everying on it.

Fast forward to the new one...iTunes immediately ask me to name the iPod, and it allowed me to completely get through the registration process. There were no pictures, videos, etc. on the device. Huh...

Was it brand new and sealed when bought?

Was it brand new and sealed when bought?

It was quite brand new from Best Buy (it was obvious that all the proper sealing was in place).

Maybe the shippers are to blame? Maybe those guys from UPS were paid a hefty sum of money from Microsoft to shake up the boxes and smash them on the ground to try to cause some collateral damage on the device before they are shipped. jk.

I think it's all got to do with the Apple QC and perhaps there are more than one manufacturer for the screens.
