Audio via receiver

I hooked my ipod nano to my Yamaha receiver via a y-cable and the sound is horrific!! Anyone know of a reason for this and how to correct it? Thanks! I know I should not expect GREAT sound, but at least something I can listen to should be possible. Right????

Did u play with the volume control on iPod AND u hooked it up the an AUX input right?

Yes, I adjusted volume on the nano as well as the receiver itself. Sound was horrible, would never listen to it if that is as good as it gets....

Yer not doing it right. Plenty of ppl do this kind of hookup.

OK, I tried plugging the cord into a different aux. input and things improved drastically! Thanks for your help!!!!

My guess is you originally plugged in into the phono input of your receiver. The phono input is incompatible with anything else.
