Anyone else have an extra tight headphone jack? I'm worried I'm going to end up messing up my ear buds by pulling too hard when taking them out...
Would that be covered under the warranty?

Tight is much better than loose. As long as you are pulling on the plug and not the cord, you aren't going to hurt anything. The metal tip won't pull out of the plastic molding unless you go really crazy with a pair of pliers.

i also noticed the tightness of it. i could be wrong but i think this is a protection feature for if you drop it. the headphones wouldn't disconnect from the jack and if the buds were in your ears you would just get a little tug on them. it could essentially save your iPod if you dropped it off of a balcony by mistake or something. thats just my guess though and i'm probably wrong.
My new Black one is tight, and it should be regarded as a good thing. As already pointed out, it might serve as a safety lanyard during a fall. Also, loose connections will typically wiggle and can cause popping and static type noise in you earbuds (or whatever you use). Just use reasonable care, plug in and pull the plug out using a firm straight motion, and all should be fine...K
