I have gone thru 3 sets of Shure E2's since G3 iPods came out and I got one3we. All have given up either at the plug or somewhere in the wiring. They go scratchy and wiggling the plug wire or the wire someplace makes them worse, or one ear just dies. I got Shure to replace one set. I'm not sure I like doing that every year!! I use them daily for 2-3 hours, bicycling, outside.

Is there any particular brand that is more durable than others? I don't even care too much about the best sound quality. Riding the bicycle at 18 mph there is wind noise even with in-ear phones. Using buds like the Apple buds is out of the question, they blow out and the wind noise is unreasonable. In ear is almost required, both for sound isolation and having them stuck so they can't just blow out. I can't tell by looking at pictures of any of the brands if any one is better, wire/cable wise. Super.fi 5 looks REALLY fragile. Actually these E2's LOOK about the toughest.

I just ordered yet another pair, but am open to suggestion.

Ideas?

Actually, the UE super.fi 5 pro are not fragile at all, the cable is thicker than many others and replaceable, this late feature is great not to mention the sound quality (two drivers). You may want to give them a try.

I would say the UE's *could* be considered fragile. Especially if you consider the early release sets. There was a known issue of the driver housing cracking easily. It happened to me but UE customer service provided me with a 'new generation' pair. The housing on the replacement pair are sturdier and the cord is thicker. However, since the cord can be detached from each earpiece it can make for a fragile connection point over time if the buds are removed from the cord often for whatever reason.

A 'sturdy' looking pair that I'm interested in checking out is the Denon AH-C700.
