how do you get from the now playing screen back to the album contents list? or do i have to all the way out and then back in again?

Pressing the menu button once should get you back to whatever screen you were on previously.

Holding down the menu button will warp you to the main menu where you can select another option, or get you to easy access for the now playing screen.

That is unless some of the UI has changed in the new iPods

coverflow prob confuses things which is what i am using mostly so i pick the album and then it flips over, i pick the song i want and it plays, if i then want to go back to the album list (track listing for individual album) I have to go back to coverflow and pick the album again.
