I'm thinking about picking up a black one later this afternoon. Any impressions/experiences?

Not scratched mine yet (thankfully) but one thing I can tell you - it's absolutely nowhere NEAR as scratch sensitive as the 5G's plastic. Well impressed so far.
The back is scratchable as ever though.

Huge improvement over the 1G nanos. You can wipe the screen on your shirt without scratching it. I was going to wait for a 16GB version but once I played with the new nano I had to have it.

the display is rather durable. I had it for 2 hours and after I saw a small scratch on the display i decided to go to the store the next day and get screen protectors because I am a perfectionist lol. You should definitely plan on getting something for the back though, it is the extremely scratchable metal. i put a screen protector on the back also and so far so good, my iPod is doing well with just that.

I was considering getting a FULL BODY Invisible-Shield for my new Nano...

I normally use either Boxwave ClearTouch protectors or OverlayPlus.com - I think the InvisibleShield offers the best protection you can get, I want to use my new Nano in the gym so I'll be resting it on machines and watching video on it etc...
Might also pre-order the full body invisible shield for my iPod Touch as well.

$20 for a protective film??? That's ######ED.
Don't get me wrong, I've tried Invisible Shield products before and they're not bad, but they're waaaaaaaaaay over priced. They're not half as effective as they want you to believe and they're a little bit of a pain to get on just right.
I think I'm sticking to an empty Altoids tin, thanks.

Yea, I've reconsidered, mainly due to how much gunk and residue is left behind should you ever need to remove the invisible-shield.
OverlayPlus.com who I've used for my last few mobile phones have got a protector for the Nano which covers just the screen and the chrome back so I've ordered it, always good quality these ones.
