Okay, so the question now is: what happened to the unsold 2G nanos? More importantly, does anyone know how and were they can be bought? Are they available somewhere for a lower price than the original $250? I can't believe that they've all been confiscated by Apple and are going to be crushed into scrap. Ideas?

Just check at your local gadget stores. They are all selling Nanos to reduced prices. You can get good deals on the 8GB versions.

at best buy the other day they had both the new and old nanos and they were selling them side by side. the prices were adjusted so that they would clear out quickly. when i bought my 3g nano on saturday, i had asked the apple store clerk for an iPod nano, and he asked if i wanted the new on or old one, so they must have them there. and where did you hear apple is taking all the 2g ones and crushing them into scrap?

Thanks for all the ideas. As it happens, someone mentioned that they'll be popping up on eBay, which seems to be the case. And those on eBay who are getting rid of their 2Gs are also getting rid of all the cases and other accessories that only fit the 2G, so there are deals to be had there.
(And I didn't hear that they're being ground into scrap. I just didn't know what Apple would do with all of them. A guy working at the Apple store said that they got rid of a lot of them through the iMac promotion, obviously in anticipation of the new ones coming out.)
