I am :) gonna go for the 8GB for now, might upgrade to a higher capacity later. I think i'll be good with 8 gigs for now.
not me. 16gb is NOT enough to get me to replace my ipod. I WILL however strongly consider replacing my cell phone with a 8gb iPhone now with the price drop. It will cover the costs of early termination of my tmobile contract to switch to At&T.

For an extra $100 I'd rather have an iPhone. I'm gonna wait for a model that supports 3G wireless, though.

Not me. I already own an 8 gig iPhone and I just ordered the 160 gig Classic. That means that I now currently own a 1G 2 gig Nano, a 3G 15 gig, a 4G 30 gig, a 5G 60 gig, a 6G 160 gig and an 8 gig iPhone. I need to dump some of those older units. A good buddy of mine still has my 1G 10 gig that I sold him several years ago. He still uses it daily, after replacing the battery last year. It's bumped and dinged and scratched and the whole nine yards but it's still an awesome little unit. I should have kept it. Oh well.

I am! not preordering online but i'm getting the 16gb unit when it comes out in stores, hopefully as SOON as it comes out haha. it'll be perfect for me. the wi-fi has really made it for me, something about being able to IM all my friends from anywhere in my house that just seems so cool.

Decided on getting one over the classic, I don't need 80 gb yet and by the time I do have 80 gb hopefully something close will be in the touch.
So, whenever they get them at the apple store I'll get one.

I ordered mine yesterday although I know it will drive me crazy if they become available at the mall before mine arrives.
I tell you what, if I could get a 16GB iphone and use it without activating I think I'd go for that. I just can't part with my Sprint Sero plan and 16GB really feels like the minimum I could live with.

My music alone is 25gig, not including the 80gig of video I have. So even if I got the 16gig model I'd still be swapping stuff out. I figured I'd go for 8gig instead. This is more about internet for me then anything and having a few songs and some video in my pocket, but mostly internet. So it doesn't need to be that high of capacity. As much as I'd like it to be.
I have a 30gig 5G I decided I'm not going to sell off. I'll use what when I feel like carrying a lot of music, or in my car.
Actually I'll probably just get the iPhone. It's hard to beat. Considering wi-fi isn't as everywhere as I'd like it to be yet.
So that means, Shuffle for when I want to go really light, iPhone always on me for daily use and iPod video for car/trips/special purposes.

I am ordered mine on line September 6, love the form factor and features, but with 16gig am having second thoughts. There's a chance I could cancel the order. I'll be in my local apple store today and hope they have a unit for demo.

I ordered the 16gb iPod Touch right after the Keynote. I was initially disappointed with the 16gb limit but now I feel fine about it. Really, what I feel like listening to changes all the time and loading one film onto the Touch then replacing it each day after I've viewed it is not much of a hassle.
Even if Apple comes out with the iPhone 3G here in Sweden in the near future, I can always give the Touch to my wife and get an iPhone for myself. The Touch is something to use until then as I don't think the iPhone is coming here anytime soon.

Personally I would feel more comfortable ordering from apple. I ordered mine the second the apple store came up with the new ones. Its unlikely that you iPod will come before the 28th because you ordered it from a retail store, it might come a few days after people's who ordered them from apple because it has to go from the warehouse to the retailer then to your house. Where as if you order it from apple it goes straight to your house from the warehouse

Currently my plan is to get rid of my 80GB 5.5 and get the 16GB touch a little bit after it comes out.. I'll somehow manage with a 16GB until they release a larger capacity touch someday, then get that one..
hoping the touch gets lyrics support, the stopwatch feature from previous ipods, a search feature for media, game support, and the ability to take notes with the on-screen keyboard and save em.

Given the complete lack of 'update' support for the iPhone, I wouldn't hold your breath for any Apple software updates on the iPod Touch. I doubt they'll give us anything new at all. At the moment, in fact, they're actually removing features from the Touch in order to seperate it from the iPhone. They just sneakily removed 'Add new calendar events' from the specs...

Count me on board! After a lot of struggling I've come to terms with the 16 GB. I have 22.52 of music in iTunes but found out that I only listen to less than 6 GB of it. I rate my music in a way that I completely ignore the bulk of it that gets a lower rating. I had vowed that I will never go below the capacity of my 30 GB iPod, but realistically, I think I'll be very happy with 16 GB. 6 GB of music which I actually listen to, plus a lot of room for videos. I won't be putting every piece of movie I own (I rarely rewatch movies). Instead I'll be putting in unseen episodes of TV series.

Yeah, same. Just gunna put the music I'm currently listening to on there(about 2-3 gigs), and maybe some of my older favorites(another 3-5 gigs). The rest I'm going to reserve for videos and pictures.

I'll probably buy the 8GB to begin with just for financial reasons because I wanna get this thing the second it comes out. I only have 8GB on my iPod now anyway so once I cut some of the crap out and as long as I have 1GB available for some TV shows, i'll be fine. I understand the convenience of having all your music in your pocket, but really I don't need 40,000 songs for the 20 minute bus ride to work.

Some people are taking delivery on the 2nd October. Apple is at the moment bulking up creating huge inventories so that there won't be any shortage at all. They did the same with the iPhone so that they can maximize their sales.
The iPod Touch will hit the stores in the first week of October. I'm going to be buying the 16GB version. The space will come in handy when apple start selling applications and games.

At first (prior to Sept. 5th) I was checking out a 2G 4gig Nano to replace my 2G 4gig mini.....the color screen and better battery life being obvious advantages.
Now I've pretty much settled on an 8gig touch to be my all-around 'workhorse' iPod.....the WiFi capability being the biggest selling point for me. I only put about 3.5 gigs worth of music on my mini right now and since I have a orig. 5G 30gig video, that'll just become my video repository as I've already got a dock and the A/V cable for it.
As for the cost.....I could care less about being an early adopter....I figure I'll prolly have enough around thanksgiving...and since my 4G Photo is busted and basically worthless, I'll take that into the apple store back home and 'recycle' it to get the 10% discount.
*(The store on campus prices iPods the same as everyplace else, won't do the ipod recycling thing though :( )
My only question/concern centers around Safari.....will it be able to access hotmail or MSN Web Messenger?? If not, it's no biggie.....I figure an even bigger dilemna than that will be what case to get ;)

I know I'm buying one. I have only about 4 gigs in my collection at the moment, and I don't see loading a lot of full-length movies on it, so 8 GB is just right for me. Safari and Youtube don't hurt, either.
Plus that touch screen is just so damn sexy...must...touch!!!! ;)

Haven't posted on the forums in a long time. I preordered a 16GB touch today (something I almost never do). I can easily make this amount of storage work for me, even though I have way more music than would fit on it. I'll use half for music, and the rest for videos, podcast and photos. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Note: the order details say that it ships by September 28th and arrives by October 2nd. That doesn't mean that it won't ship earlier.
People have all sorts of complaints about this device. None of the common ones seem to bother me. My biggest complaint: the fact Apple has brought back the mirrored back shell. That almost demands that a case or some sort of protection be used (not that I wouldn't be using some protection anyway).

I'm getting it but I'm undecided on which one to get. I am very picky with my music so I have EXACTLY 8gb of music. I don't listen to all of that all the time. I probably just listen to like 6gb of my music. Ill have like 1gb left on the 8gb iPod touch but I know I'll want to add pictures and video. The only thing that stops me from getting the 16gb iPod touch is the price. I can't really afford it yet because I'm a college student and don't work. So yeah I'm undecided! I don't know what to do! I have to make up my mind before September 28. haha

When my 4th gen iPod died a year ago, I wanted a player which supported both video and audio. But the screen on the 5th Gen ipod was just too small. So I decided to go with the Zune, which has treated me very well... But the iPod Touch is brining me back. I'll be buying the 16GB one.

Although I usually don't go for the engraving, I decided to do it this time. Put my gmail address on it just in case it gets lost.

I just looked into the Archos. It seems very nice. However the battery life isn't that amazing, the appearance of the product is kind of bulky and too many buttons for something that has a touchscreen. The touch screen doesn't seem as functional as the iPod touch/iPhone's though. However, the fact that they are offering 30, 80, 160GB HDD versions AND a 4GB Flash version, to me seems that they have the consumer in mind by offering both versions of capacity storage to the user's liking.
Still getting an iPod touch though.

That's the official release date. In the Sept 5th event Jobsie said that the Touch should be in stores 'sometime this month' so we'll see.
They have probably been in production for a while now, but they've gotta produce enough and get them to the US for distribution in large enough numbers to 'launch'. At least that's how Apple usually does things.
