See here's the thing, I've always wanted a Nano (never needed, see my sig) for a loooong time, it's small and I LOVE that blue. I almost want just because of the blue.

But now they came out with these new ones that are the new technology.

So

get old technology for cheaper, half the storage space, no video, not really a problem though on either of those in the color I love.. and the shape I love

or get the new technology and more space and video..

Well I am not sure how pricing and things work but the 2G Nanos on Apples website, though they say refubished ar only $129.99 for 4 GB so they are still a bit cheaper than the new model. If you don't really need video I would say a 2G is good as long as you can save money. I have to admit the new colors are kind of ugly. Though Blood Red and Black are kind of nice.

I'm much impressed by the durability of the 2G nanos, and the new ones have stainless backs, and we all know what happens to those...

saw one in person tonight, couldn't touch it
colors were awful, and it was a fat little bugger
but then it would probably kill me to get something without the latest technology

If your primary concern is about scratching, get the 2G. My 1 day old 3G Nano already has some scratches on the back. If you are a runner and you hold the nano in your hand as you run, get the 2G because the width of the 3G is not as good for holding it.

For me, the scratching doesn't bother me. What the 3G Nano has that I like is: playlist folders, easy shuffle (do it from the song screen), ability to sync video podcasts (even if I don't care about the video, some podcasts ONLY come in video form), fun games for those "pondering times" in the can. The graphics are really amazing too.
