OK, I gotta ask this... does the new nano have a faster processor or is it essentially just a firmware upgrade? If it's the latter it begs the question, couldn't Apple give us video on the old (2G) nano without us having to shell out for the new device? Of course there'd be less in it for them in that case...

I don't know about some people, but my iPod nano 2nd Gen has issues with some 320kbps music. I very highly doubt if it is that weak that it would be able to play video with audio. However that might not be the processor that makes it just randomly stop in some songs and make me rencode them but still it might be.

The first and second-generation iPod nano had completely different processors, so it would be extremely odd for the third-generation to be built on the same architecture at the second.
Further, all of the iPods with video capability have a hardware chip in them to handle the video decoding. This would not have been in the second-generation iPod nano, and that alone would mean that the new nano is built on a completely different hardware platform.

people could still change it and put video on the old nano

Why would you want to watch video on such a small screen, though?

Why do people use their KRZR for watching video?
I actually used my 1st gen nano for videos. Too bad the 2nd gen was encrypted, or I might've gotten the 8 gb black.
