Docking problem

One thing I just noticed is that the headphone jack of the touch is on the bottom? Does this mean I won't be able to listen to my ipod through headphones while its sitting in a dock. If so that really sucks. I listen to my current 5g ipod every day at work while it charges in the dock. It will be pretty lame to have to listen to it lying on its back, missing out on all the new visual goodness.

Am I missing something here?

There ought to be a pass-through headphone jack on the back of the dock you could plug into.

There is a line-out port on the back of the ipod docks, which is supposed to be used for connecting the ipod to speakers while in the dock. I suppose you could use this port and plug your headphones in, being that it is the same type port, but it would probably be really loud and have no volume control.

You could also just skip using the dock while listening to your ipod, and just plug in the 30-pin connector to the bottom and listen through the headphone port.

Oh shoot, you're right. The line out would probably deafen ya if you plugged headphones into it. :eek:

I guess Nano ( 2nd gen ) users must have had this same problem. Pretty lame. I love having my ipod ( 5G ) sitting right there in front of me at work so at a glance I can see what's playing. I also then know its fully charged for my commute home.

According to the Apple website the touch will ship with a stand, so you can put it in the stand and use the regular connector cable to the computer and headphones.

Keep in mind also that the existing Apple Universal Dock does pass the volume control between the iPod and Dock (there's an attenuator in the Dock), so it's entirely possible that you could use the headphone jack on a Universal Dock as well.
