Ipod Nano-Music stops after few secs

I hava a 4gb Apple Ipod nano

When it plays music it only plays a song for approx 5 secs then the song stops & screen blanks, then the screen comes back on

Does anyone have any ideas

Not sure what to do - If i have to send it away didnt really want to pay what the manufacturer charges to mend them
