Somewhere within this Forum --- and of course I didn't document its location so now I cannot reread it for verification!!!!! --- I believe I remember posts about the repeated need to replace headphones and/or canal buds connected to iPods. I think statements were made about iPods actually *burning out* the phones. Am I remembering this correctly?

For the past three years I've been happily using a $125.00 set of Bose Triport phones with a Samsung mp3 player. More and more, I've developed an interest in videocasts and am giving thought to an iPod video player once the new generation is released (perhaps soon?).

Therefore my question: do iPods have a history of *burning out* earphones? Is it wise to use my rather expensive Triports with any future iPod I may acquire?

Many thanks in advance for provided suggestions.

iPods do not burn out earphones. I use Shure E500s and am quite confident that they will not get burned by my iPods.

The ipod doesn't burn out earphones. It was just because the original ipod earphones tend to break.

It's more like ALL earphones tend towards breaking due to cheap cabling.

Yeah, all of Apple's cables suck. Got to go out tomorrow and get a power cable for my MacBook.

Here is what happens. Out of millions made there are a select few that have the capability of providing too much power to the headphones which in turn makes them static and they break. However, I can assure you that of 5 iPods within the family, that only happened once, and it was to a refurbished first gen 1GB Nano, of which Apple replaced and replaced the earbuds. I would use any headphones on my iPod. You have nothing to worry about.

I've been using the same Westone UM2's for two years with four different iPods without any problem. Well, maybe my ears are a little shot......:(
