i burgered my iGrados trying to trim off the rubber w/ an exacto knife, i really hate the way they did this headphone jack.

so whats the best headphones/earbuds that dont require some wonky adapter? ive tried sony and sennheiser, they dont fit. ive read the shures dont either...

As of right now I think the best solution is to create a frankenstein hybrid headphone from the stock apple ones and your favorite earbuds. That way you get your fav earbuds + mic & button + perfect fitting plug.

I hear vmoda are releasing a new headset with a mic button soon. That might be worth waiting for.

I didn't really like the vmoda's which really aren't much better than the stock buds. I ended up spending the forty bucks on the Shure adapter, so I could use my E500's. To me, there really aren't a good pair of iPhone earphones yet, so someone needs to come out with a good adapter so you can use the ones you've got. Shure's is nice, but the cord is way too long.

I haven't tried them but the Etymotic ER-6i and Apple Earbud cord combo looks nice.

Has anyone here tried them?

do you have specifics? i checked the etymotic and dont see anything like that - same with shure and vmoda - nothing iphone specific besides the adapters...

i wouldnt even know where to begin soldering the connectors to make the frankenstein adapter, the wires are so thin

shure makes a version that has a mic that fits
v moda makes a version that mic that fits
etymotic just came out with a version that has mic and apples iphone controls that fits

bmanilow, its actually really really simple, you should give it a try. Each earbud only has 2 soldering points, so just take note of where they are when you're taking them apart, and solder them back on exactly the same way onto the Apple cord.

I had never soldered anything before, but I tried the transplant cause there isn't anything else out that can compare. I'm 100% glad I did it. You can do it too!

I love the vmoda ones personally. Their stylish, sound great, and they werent that expensive. Im sure they dont sound as great as some e500s, but i personally dont have 500+ dollars to buy headphones. I would wait for the vmodas with a button though, that would be so great.

i think right now your best bet is the shure headphone adapter sold on apple's site. Some say the cord is a bit long but look at your alternatives right now. Plus, with the quality that is synonymous with shure you know you are getting top-notch microphone hardware (it is their specialty after all) plus quality connectors. I am going to order mine today.
