Pinoy po ako. Been an ipodder since May (hence a member since then), ever since the 3G first came out, and have frequented the boards closely ever since. WHat are yer questions? Id be glad to help! Belated Maligayang Pasko nga pala :D

i'm Pinoy as well :) got the iPod as a combined Christmas/birthday gift. the only sucky thing is that i bought a Firewire card from PC Corner (InnoDV DV-1000LE) and it worked the first few times, but now it refuses to recognize my 'Pod. nakakainis. tried it on my brother's laptop and my friend's Powerbook, and both computers recognized it. so my problem's really the Firewire card.
just ranting. :p i'll shut up now. ask away :D

Wow! I didn't imagine I would receive replies immediately! Thanx guys!
Anyways, Belated mali###ang pasko to all and Manigong bagong taon!
I was originally planning to get an ipod this may, but since my nomad jukebox had been acting up, I have t get a pod ASAP!
Here are my questions:
1. Where in the phils is the best place to buy a pod? I want a 40Gig but the price is too steep so i have to settle for a 20Gig.
2. Im running Windows XP Prof on a 1.7Gig Pentium4. I don't have USB 2 nor firewire so I save to buy a card. Which is better, a firewire card or a USB2? And where and what brand should I get. I'm planning to install the card on my own. Is it easy to install?
3. I already downloaded all the free software I could find, especially the 2.1 firmware upgrade. Can I use the ipod right out of the box or do I have to upgrade first? I have more than 20Gig worth of mp3's and cds, and i don't wanna reupload them when I upgrade the firmware...
4. Does the ipod have preloaded tracks out of the box? the nomad has some tracks when i bought it.
Thanks again guys! Hope to hear from ya soon! BTW I'm 28 from alabang.

hmmm.
1. i'm not sure where it's best to buy an iPod at (mine was ordered from Amazon), but here's a list of Mac dealers/distributors in the Philippines. http://www.philmug.org/forums/viewthread.php?tid=1106 call them and ask around, so you can get the best price :) i think the recommended ones are LMK and Ynzal. Microwarehouse is the official distributor for iPods here, but i don't know if their prices are cheaper.
2. trust me, it's almost impossible to find a Firewire card here. i had to call a dozen PC shops before i could find one, and like i previously mentioned, it doesn't even work properly. but the thing is, without a Firewire card, you have to buy a USB cable because the iPod doesn't come with one. i called up Powermac (Megamall branch) and the USB cable costs P2600. mahal, diba? so you could either buy the USB cable or buy a Firewire card online (make sure to check out the list of Apple-approved Firewire cards though.. i think the Adaptec 4300 one is the most trustworthy)
3. your iPod will probably come with the latest firmware. you should download iTunes now though, and fix your mp3s plus their ID3 tags so once you get your iPod, you just transfer everything and.. voila. :)
4. mine didn't come with any preloaded tracks. clean as a whistle.
Happy New Year!

Hmmm... Ur online huh?! I am too! I'm getting redy for work. Tnx for your reply. I never ordered anything online, and I'm not planning to. I'm going to some malls later to canvass prices. I already went to powermac mega. I just hope their 20G will still be on sale (P20.000++). Yup i asked for their usb cable. Mahal nga and i still have to buy a usb2 card. I asked some shops for firewire cards, aroud P3,000 daw. But the thing is, I' not sure if it will work (like yours) Iv'e read lots of posts na maraming FWcards na nagloloko. Do you think Its worth it for me to buy a USB2 card plus the cable? Is usb2 more reliable?
Another thing what case protector ang maganda? I've seen some at powermac and greenhills.
Thanks agen!
OOps! BTW, I alredy have itunes 4.2!
orbit
12-28-2003, 02:58 PM
yep, i'm online too. work? aga ah. :)
3,000? what brand is that? tsaka saan? my Firewire card cost 1k (plus i was charged 300 for labor and installation).
USB2.0 vs Firewire, Firewire's definitely faster. but i think the cost is pretty much the same -- if you're going with USB2.0, you have to buy the cable pa. Firewire naman, you have to buy the card.
i don't have a case for my iPod yet, but i'm probably going to get the iSkin exo2 :) just waiting for more colors to come out. pero mahal yan dito sobra eh. i'm probably going to order online.
what do you have against buying things on the Internet? :)
Darrell
12-28-2003, 03:11 PM
Haha! 6AM kasi work ko eh. Shifting kami. I just asked the price eh. I think sa festival mall sa alabang ko natanung un, I didn't even bother asking for the brand. I know it would cost me more if i'll use usb coz i'd have to buy the card and the cable. But if its more reliable, i'll invest on it.
About the online shopping, i havent really tried it. I'm reluctant to give away my credit card no. I may be paranoid, but just playing safe. BTW how did you order ba? From amazon? Did they ship it to you here? Could you teach me how... I might try it.
Also, i'm goin to work soon, if you want, can you text me later?

Hello fellow pinoys! Finally, may kabayan nako dito :D
I got my firewire card for 1500 only, just the generic brand, but it hasnt failed me once yet. Ask around in the computer shops in Galleria and Megamall, and some will have generic firewire cards which, in my experience, get the job done. I definitely recommend firewire over usb2. The charging while uploading and updating is invaluable, especially during long updating sessions. Trust me on this.
Orbit pretty much covered it all. Ive scoured Manila for good cases, and i ended up getting iskin exo1 from the MAC megamall branch. I have NOOO idea when and if the iskin exo 2's are gona be sold locally, and i desperately wanted a case ASAP so i settled for those. i suggest if you have folks in the States, order from them coz its WAAAAY cheaper. Harang presyo ng iskin dito, pero no-choice ako e.
Chances are your new ipod will already have version 2.1, and i cant recommend itunes enough. (Ive been here since May and have tried everything: ephpod, musicmatch, etc., and itunes is the best, altho a bit slow on my Windows Xp 1.7 Ghz machine)
I suggest you get from any of the various Mac centers in Manila, so that tech help and the warranty shouldnt be a problem, plus you have plenty of options. Unlike in the other countries, ipods seem to be plentiful this holiday season, probly coz our economy aint that good.
Hope that helps. Post in the other forum areas as well, esp the Music explorations area....im there a lot coz im usually too lazy to work... :P

i'm kinda wary about getting another Firewire card. :( i think mine still works cos when i plug my Pod in, it charges, but it doesn't show up as a removable hard drive.
i'm ordering the exo2 with 3 of my friends and we're splitting the shipping costs. i'm not paying a fortune for something i can get for so much cheaper somewhere else :p
iTunes is a godsend. i'm so glad i've left the world of Winamp behind!
i'm here every day, but i rarely post. was really more of a lurker til this thread came along, actually.
what do you guys think of the Belkin Battery Pack? according to a friend of mine, Powermac's selling it for P3500.. you think that's worth it?

if that's the case, get firewire na lang. :)
my brother was in the US for a while, so he ordered my iPod for me from Amazon. i got it when he came home. mas ok kasi if you know someone in the States who can get it for you cos you can get shipping discounts and such.

Hey orbit, pwede ba makihati din jan sa order nyo...ive been drooling for an exo2 for sooo long na! Please? :D
So you guys (i assume your 3 days are fellow ipodders) are going to order from the states and split the shipping costs? ANy chance I can join in, hehe? Btw, are you getting the iskin exo2 or the lajo exo2? Ive been doin research and i hear the iskin exo2's are waaay superior....
Im serious about making hati sa shipping nyo...if its ok lang.

sure. i just haven't fixed the details yet so i'm not sure how much the total cost per person is, but it'll *probably* be under 2k. and i still don't know when we're ordering! hehe. i'm torn between wanting to wait for the new colors to come out and getting my Pod protected asap.
we're getting the iSkin exo2's. sayang, i really like the Lajo skins and the 2-for-1 deal is really worth it, but the covered scrollwheel issue worries me.

Thanx orbit and reorx! You provided me w/ much useful info. I went to microwarehouse in pasig yesterday. They have the same price range as powermac center. the problem: THEY ONLY HAVE THE 10G IN STOCK!!! They can't even tell me when they'll have it.
Another bummer: I still don't have the budget. But I'm sure I'll get a pod in at most 4months. I can hardly wait!!! Thing is, when I buy a pod, I want to get all the accesories for it (i.e. fire wire card, exoskin, etc...) :(
I got a leaflet from powermac that says their 20G iPods are on sale at P20,000 (same price as the 10G here) Do you guys have an idea if They still have the sale goin on? BTW, how much is the exoskin here? Are accessories cheaper in greenhills than at powermac?
Tnx again and Happy New Year to all!!!

Another thing nga pala guys, I think orbit mentioned about fixing ID3tags on my mp3s. Do I really have to do that? How? I have alot of mp3s on cds (you know, yung mga nabibili sa greenhills at kung saan saan pa. wag kayong maingay! ;) as well as audio cds. It would take me a long time to edit their tags. Also, I don't keep my music files on my pc hard drive.
On my nomad jukebox, I just copy mp3s on it, then edit the track info w/ its software. I can't upload all my collection coz it won't fit so what I do is erase some, then add some from time to time. I have more than 20G worth of music so that's what I plan to do w/ my iPod as well (If I won't be able to afford a 40G.
Tnx again!

Yung 20 gig that you saw on a Powermac leaflet that sells for 20kphp is for the 2nd gen Ipod. You might need to fix some of the tags in your Mp3's.
Regarding dun sa Innodv firewire card, that is the same Firewire card I'm using for my Ipod wala namang problem.I bought it for 950php.

Wow, thanks orbit. I'd really appreciate it if masali ako jan. Pa-update nlang through the boards, or just text me at 0920-9251433. I think it would be worth it nga to wait for the additonal colors. So far, 4 colors plang right? My exo1 is already ice, so I want something really colorful for my second. And yes, iskin is my favored choice too. The scroll and button covers of the lajo model bothers me too. Pa update nlang, orbit. Thanks :D
Darrell, Ive canvassed in ghills, all mac centers, as well as different mac and mac accessory dealers here in Manila, and they all have basically the same price for ipod cases. The Speck Ipod cover is 2500, the Iskin Exo1 is 3500. No exo2's yet here. The Speck case is cheaper, but waay inferior to exo. Look at the forums and youll see that exo is the undisputed case champ. It has the best colors, best fit, and best functionality.
As for id3tags, i too purchase greenhills cds, and most naman of the mp3s there have their tags in order, while others dont. If not, itunes can easily fix them for you, by batch even. Just highlight the song(s) whose tags you want fixed, right click, and change the info and enter the artist, song title and album, even the genre and year if you are as anal about your idtags as i am. Itunes can do it all for you. Before itunes, I had to download a separate tag editor to fix my files. Now, itunes does it for me.
Hehe, lets start an ipod club here in Manila....i bring my ipod everywhere and ive only seen a total of one other ipod user around. Sa MRT pa. Glad to finally talk ipod with fellow Filipinos :D

Again and again, thanks a lot guys!!! I called powermac mega yesterday, and found out na 2ndGen nga pla yung nakasale at out of stock na. (anyway, I wouldnt want a 2ndG noh!) But What's worse, they too only have the 10G 3rd gen in stock. Baka 2nd wk of jan. pa daw magkaroon ng 20 gig.
I think I'll settle for a 20G coz I still have to buy a firewire card, kahit generic na lang, and an exoskin. I could even get a 15G kung meron pa, i heard phased out na yata eh. Basta I need to have the remote and the dock.
I'm goin to greenhills later to look around, and if i get lucky enough, at makuha yung bucks ko, I'll buy a pod!!! I know it's new years eve, but I wanna get a pod ASAP. WOW, a new iPod on the first day of 2004! I won't be able to sleep from my excitement!!! Wish me luck guys!:D

1. Have you tried reinstalling your firewire drivers?
2. If that doesn't work, try cheking the FWcard itself, open up your pc, then check kung baka maluwag yung card.
3. Or, I think you mentioned that it charges your pod but doesn't recognize it? Try looking through the pins of the card. Check if all 6 pins are intact. Baka may nabali...
4. Also, try reinstalling the software (i.e. iTunes, etc..) Reboot your machine and see if that works.
I hope that helps...

All my mp3s are on cds as I bought them. If I edit them, would they be saved on the cd? (I don't think so). As I said, I don't store music files on my pc hard drive.
Pls enlighten me more on this coz i never edited tags before. I used to edit tracks on my nomad after I upload, using its software. Is that the same as editing tags?

honestly, the remote and dock both aren't anything special, if yun lang ang habol mo ;) but you said you have 20gb worth of mp3s, so get as much storage as you can afford. :D
1. yeah. i even tried to uninstall and reinstall the card. nothing happened.
2. hmm. i'll try that, thanks.
3. oooh. i didn't think of that.
4. i'm scared to reinstall iTunes. won't that mean having to add everything to my library again?
i tried rebooting and rebooting, but nothing happens. but i'll try #2 and #3. thanks :)
Happy New Year, everyone!

Haha! Your online huh?! ORBIT.
I really want the wired remote coz it would be more convenient for me. I'd just tuck away my pod and operate it from the remote. I mostly commute so I don't wanna flaunt my iPod anywhere. Baka mauso "agaw ipod" :p
As for the dock, Its more convenient when transferring (like my palm pda), plus the line out wil be very useful for me when connecting to external speakers.
Actually, I would get the 40G if I can, coz I know my music collection would grow as ever. But that depends on my budget. I really wanna pod ASAP coz my nomad keeps getting annoying!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TOO AND TO EVRYBODY!!!!

My only hope is at greenhills. I'm definitely goin there today! I hope the shops will be open...

yup I just joined PhilMUG that was the nail in the coffin thats why I bought the Ipod.I'm also not a Mac user but I love listening to music on the go.I got the 15 gig 3rd gen at PowerMac Megamall(Cyberzone).During the time I inquired for the 15gig there were no stocks left even at the other branches.Luckily, there was one left but the box was open already(a suppose to be buyer had his cc maxed out already)though the Ipod and the other parts are still sealed so I took it no problems naman hanggang ngayon.AFAIK,15 giger Ipods are discontinued.
I have seen a total of 2 people in 2 years tinkering with an Ipod here in the Phils(MRT and Mexicali Megamall) 2nd gen pa pareho.I
use it for travelling to work.My only gripes about the Ipod is the short battery life(inaccurate battery meter also) and earphone.I just wish that Apple creates a better sounding earphone(at least Sennheiser quality) with built in remote coz the one which you attach gets tangled up because of its long cord.Mahal grabe ng Ipod no!Advance X-mas gift ko nga sa kin to e.

update to my Firewire dilemma: the wretched thing finally works! :D wonder of wonders, i took my CPU and iPod+dock to PC Corner, and when i connected it *there*, it finally worked. sheesh. came home, connected it again, didn't work at first, switched ports, now i'm transferring songs again. hope this lasts.
anyway.. the battery life of the iPod's okay for me.. i mean the longer the better, of course but i don't really need more than 8 hours except when i'm travelling by plane :) the headphones are okay too.. i love music but i'm by no means an audiophile, so i can't tell bass from treble or whatever ;) (hmm, that sounded really ditzy, no?) i really want to get a pair of noise cancelling headphones though. if only they weren't so expensive.
yeah, mahal nga. i've had tons of people tell me it's not worth it, but for me, it was either the iPod or nothing at all. it really is a beautiful gadget.. nothing beats having all of my music with me wherever i go, and in such a tiny package. ayan, i'm waxing sentimental! just deliriously happy with the fact that my Firewire port works again!
i'm wondering how old you guys are? i'm 17, turning 18 in less than two weeks :)

I'm not an audiophile myself, but eversince i got my ipod, ive been delving more and more into headphones and music. Hey orbit, if you want cheap noise cancelling headphones, i suggest you get the sennheiser px-200's at any tower records. Thats what i got for myself this xmas, and it really rocks. Its small and portable, and way cheaper than the more expensive noise cancelling sets by pioneer, sony, and the higher end HD 280 also by snnheiser. Im also looking for sony EX-70's here, but cant find em, so i went with senn px-200's.
orbit, Youre turning 18 plang? Advance HBD:D that means your probly a college freshie or soph by now. Im old. Older than you mccoy, pero not by much :D Lets just say im working na, otherwise, no way would i be able to get an ipod for myself. Quite an expensive toy. Eto na nga lang, and my ever expanding cd collection ang luho ko ngayon e.
Congrats on your firewire! Enjoy. Manigong Bagong Taon sa ating lahat!!

Orbit: Why are you saying sorry? The sooner you order the exo2's, the better! :D So magkano nga aabot? Just tell me. I still have some xmas money left over naman eh, hehe. Wag lang sana masyado mahal. I think ill get the Sonic, the bright blue. Thanks dude! Just update me. I gave my text number earlier in this thread in case the forums fail or something.
The Sennheiser px200's are mga P 2,900 at all tower records, but i was able to get it for P2,600 at ambassador appliances in shangri-la mall. It might even be cheaper elsewhere if you look around.
Yes, the black case really sucks, and HAS been known to cause scratches at the chrome back because of the cloth apple tag. Be careful when putting it in the cae to avoid scrathces.
Happy New Year everyone!! Sana umunlad na talaga bansa natin!!!

your iPod's the 15 gb version, right? i won't know how much it'll cost until i order it cos i'm shipping through a shipping agent, but i'm pretty sure hindi yan sosobra ng 2k.
that's comparatively cheaper than the Sony Fontopia ones.. but are they good at cancelling ambient noise? :)
Sana umunlad na talaga bansa natin!!!... i agree! AMEN.

Cool, im Filipino too, but American born. I don;t know if you know this, but my family just came back from the Philipines, and this place called the MegaMall had a few. I don't know the city, but I stayed in Infanta. Looked a little pricy; 15,000 peso for a cell phone. Sorry, but i'm not fluent in Tagalog.

darrell and orbit,
i'm also from the Philippines. Saw some 20Gb Ipods at SM Cyberzone. Anyway, I suggest using firewire cards that use the Via chipset. they tend to be less problematic than other cards w/c use a different chipset.
orbit
01-01-2004, 09:22 AM
what Firewire card do you use?
and how do i know which ones use the Via chipset?
lahar

orbit,
you can see them on the card itself. I use an I-O DATA CB1394L pc card in my Dell laptop and another I-O DATA brand USB 2.0/Firewire PCI card in my desktop.

no need to even do that. just look at the Device Manager and look for any reference to a 1394 adapter.

Welcome Lahar! Lehe, looks like more and more pinoys are signing up. To the other Pinoy lurkers out there, sign up and be heard! This way, we can have a venue for pinoy ipoders, so if anyone has problems, questions, anything to sell or wanting to buy, we can all be heard. For example, once i get the exo2 case that orbit plans to kindly ship for me, i *might* sell my exo1 ice case (at a BIG loss...I just want some cash for it to help pay for my new case. I dont need two cases), and where else can i advertise it but here? Or anyone else out there selling firewire cards, headphones, extra cases, docks, etc., this is the place to be heard. Anyone else out there?
Orbit, the px-200's dont have the sophisticated noise cancelling technology that the more expensive sonys and pioneers have, but it is "closed" headphones, meaning it blocks out outside noise and the person beside you cant hear what your listening to, as opposed to "open" phones where all the sound just leaks out. It is not "noise cancelling" per se (hence cheaper), but is effective in blocking out noise, and keeping the music in.

Oh no! Our thread shrunk back to 4 pages! We traveled back i time! :D Well, at least the forum's back.
Hi pinoy ipodders! I went to apple center in megamall and guess what? Just got the in-ears. They sound better than the stock buds, although I spent some time trying to figure out which size fits me best and how to wear it. I found it best to wear them upside down, like the shure in-ears. Do you know how they're really supposed to be worn?
I saw some exo2's. I thought the exo2's have covered menu upper buttons? The only thing i noticed is the small difference in the design and belt clip. Orbit and reorx, could you post some pics of your exo2's?
OMG! I'm a junior member again! :(

I guess this thread was started by someone asking where to buy an iPod in the phillipines. I'm not too sure how it really started, but I'm pretty sure that someone like Darrell and Orbit can explain it more. Oh, and Pinoy is just another word for Filipino. And the info part, are just questions and answers about our little "precious" Pods.

Hey darrell, sorry, just read now your question regarding exo2's. For a better understanding of my answer, you must first realize that the exo 1's were manufactured by both Lajo (the designer)and iskin. After exo 1 was released, Lajo bolted from iskin to manufacture his own line of cases, which he ALSO named exo 2's. Thus, there are two types of exo 2's. The iskin exo 2's (which orbit and I have) and the Lajo exo 2's, which have the aforementioned button hole covers.
IMHO, the iskin exo 2's are a big improvement over the exo 1's, the holes fit better, the hold button is much more accessible, the belt clip is waaaay better, and the over-all fit just seemed to improve. If you have cash to burn, i highly recommend it. But seeing that you got the in-ears, baka magipit ka. To me, it boiled down also to a choice between the exo 2's and the new in-ears, but since i just got sennheiser px-200's nung Xmas, i decided for the new case nlang. Angas ng color pa. Sonic rules :)

Thanks for the info. I think i like the lajo's skin more, because of the button covers. But I just can't find them here. iSkin exo2 lang ang available sa Apple center eh... Haha, you're right, I just payed off some of my cc balance and there I go again, charged the in-ears! My cc's maxed out again, anyway, I think i'll just wait for the exo3s. (I have no choice anyway) :)
BTW, do you guys know how to properly wear the ipod in-ears? i experimented a bit and though i was disappointed at first (it sounded teeny and no bass), i figured to wear them upside down, just like how the shure in-ears are worn. Now they sound really great! No regrets whatsoever! :) I was just wonderin coz I can't find anty illustration.

I suggest you to just buy mp3 cds at greenhills or wherever, you can find them almost everywhere. (alam mo na ibig kong sabihin, di ba?) ;) Beats the heck of those long download times. Most new mp3cds are now encoded at 192kbps. Pretty good quality for mp3s.

Do you like in-ears? I just bought the ipod in-ears a few days ago. At first I was disappointed, but when I figured out the best way to wear them, they sound great! IMHO, they sound much better than the stock buds. I'm not sure if they're the best available here, but they suit me well. They say the Sony EX71 are better, but I can't find them here in our country.

Fallout Boy is pop-punk, similar to Spitalfield and Finch, but way cooler and edgier than all those pop-punk (with emphasis on POP) now proliferating the airwaves like Good Charlotte, A Simple plan, Sum 41, etc. Think early Blink 182 when they didnt sell out yet.
Postal Service is the brainchild of two indie-music greats, Jimmy Tamborello of Dntel (Electronica) and Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie (emo/indie). Orbit, i suggest you get all the tracks from their album The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, theyre all cool, although ill have to say that the title track is the best. Also try out Death Cab for Cutie, (same singer) their most recent album Transatlanticism. Cool stuff.
Pedro the Lion is a one-man Christian-indie group, led by David Bazan. Have only heard about 5 of their songs though, but it was good.
Orbit, since you seem to have indie-rock leanings, i suggest you visit pitchforkmedia.com often, and try out some of my favorite indie bands: The Shins, Modest Mouse, Wilco, Interpol and Death Cab for Cutie. For more mainstream-indie, Radiohead (my absolute FAVORITE band of the moment) and the Flaming Lips are no-brainers.
Post your recommendations too :)

i've always thought of pop-punk as an oxymoron ;) how can something be pop and at the same time punk? hehe. this is why i leave my mp3s' genre tags alone. :D
thanks for the recommendations! i've heard a few Death Cab songs.. Photobooth (i'm listening to it now, just put it on cos i realized i hadn't listened to it in a long time!), I Was A Kaleidoscope, and The New Year. not bad. i only know one Wilco song.. Jesus Etc. i don't really listen to indie rock a lot, i listen mostly to what you could classify as "pop-punk", i guess.. Jimmy Eat World, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Motion City Soundtrack, Anberlin (they're pop-punky but they're a Christian band.. galing), Spitalfield, The Early November.. i could go on and on :)
ahh, music. :D

Hey orbit, since you like "punk-pop", i must tell you that i was able to get an mp3 cd from Shangrila mall entitled "Solid Punk Rock 3", and it contained albums from the following bands: Alkaline Trio, Fallout Boy, Brandston, Anberlin, Spitalfield, Wakefield, The Early November, Brand New, Bottom Line, Movie Life, The Beautiful Mistake, Fairweather and Ten Foot Pole. Cool noh? Check it out if you can.
Hey username, did you get the FIRST version of lajo's xskin exo 2? I read somewhere that he improved on this first version (precisely because of the faults you just mentioned), released this new, improved second version with improved button response and thinner coverings, and offered to exchange all those who got the faulty first versions with the new ones.

As for the headphones... I want closed-type ones. The ones they had at Tower Makati were, I guess, open-type. Currently, I have a Philipps SBC HP170. Er, is there a need for me to get new headphones?
reorx24
02-26-2004, 08:14 AM
For closed types, the ones most recommended are:
For earbuds, The aforementioned Sony EX-71, whch are all but impossible to find here in Manila, and the different Shure in-ear models available at fine audiophile stores, but at a hefty price (up wards of 4k)
For closed headphones, the Sennheiser HD 280 is often recommended, and if your on a budget, the Senn PX-200 is a good value for closed headphones. Ive seen both models in Tower Records Greenbelt 3.
Never heard of your Philips Headphones, but hey, if it sounds good to you, dont let others sway you. Headphone sound is a VERY subjective thing, and if youre happy with what you have, then good. But if youre looking for closed headphones, the above models are the most recommended both here and in the various headphone forums ive been to.

Im not sure if there is a third party device available to split the ipod headphone jack, but what you CAN do is just hook your ipod to your stereo or other output device with two or more headphone jacks, and use that. Other than that suggestion, i dont know, sorry. Besides, may I ask what you need two headphone inputs for?

I also was able to see one in person, and boy is the thing uber-cool. Makes my 15 gigger look like a dinosaur in comparison. I was able to examine a display model in Power Mac Megamall, but they wont sell nga till April. Display model lang talaga.
Aside from the size, i especially like the (iodized ba yun) aluminum cover, which is sooo smooth and does not smudge or scrath as easily as the original. If only it came in a bigger size (10 gig would be fine) id get it for sure, but as it is, i like having a big bulk of my music collectionin one player. 4 gig just wont cut it for me. If the gen 4 ipods are this small and contain 40+ gigs, i'd sell my soul for one...hehe.

Yeah, I don't have to see it in person to realize the mini's coolness. If it were only already available last January, I would've gotten it in a heartbeat. I'll sacrifice 6Gigs for the size and everything about the mini. Well, nothing I can do about it now. I still love my iPod. :)

darrell, sorry if i've asked you this before but how are the in-ear headphones? when you wear them do they really isolate noise (as in wala ka talagang marinig)?
Darrell
03-08-2004, 10:17 AM
Yeah, they cancel noise alright, pero may maririnig ka pa rin. As in, when I walk, I could still hear the noise outside (e.g. car horns, people talking, etc...), but you have to keep the volume down. otherwise, you'll hear nothing but the music. Actually, this was also my concern about noise-cancelling phones coz, I usually commute and always have my ipod with me whenever I go. Baka kasi masagasaan ako eh. :) But generally, I could manage with the ipod in-ears. Though you have to get used to it. When you're wearing them and not listening to music, you can hear your brething and footsteps. :) Now, I'm even able to adjust my voice and can even talk to people while I'm listening to my ipod! Hehe...
I still couldn't find EX71's here, but if they're really cancel external noise, I don't think I could ever use them. :)

Gud day kabayans! question lang po.. Mas mabilis ba ma drain ang battery when playing the iPod on the dock via iTunes? The iPods battery meter is really freaking me out... my fully charged iPod is playing on the dock via iTunes ( but not connected to power source), and is now showing near empty battery with less than an hour of playing time. Is this Normal? or is my baby sick? :(
reorx24
03-10-2004, 09:47 PM
Hey musicman, i assume that the dock is connected to the computer, coz your playing via itunes right? ANd i guess your not using firewire because you said it is not charging ot not connected to a power source. The answer to your query is YES, sobrang lakas mag drain if you play the ipod through itunes in the pc. That's because while its connected to the dock and connected to the pc, the hard drive is continually spinning, as it is being used a an external harddrive by the computer. My advice is, if your going to play it through itunes, charge it at the same time to avoid massive drain. In fact, i read somewhere in these forums before that playing the ipod through itunes isnt really recommended because the constant spinning of the harddrive might wear it out.
In any event, what your experiencing is normal , because the harddrive is continually spinning, thus causing massive drain. NExt time, use firewire, or connect it to a power source at the same timt to avoid the drain.
Darrell
03-11-2004, 12:14 AM
reorx24 is right, musicman. You can play your iPod thru iTunes? I guess you're on manual sync right? Coz otherwise I think you can't do that. It's not generally advised to stream your iPod contents to your pc. Why don't you just connect it to your external speakers to avoid otherwise unnecessary wear on your iPod's hard disk and battery. Just a piece of advice.... Magandang araw! :)

Anyways, i want to get a new pod (still using the G2 pod) and i was wondering how much the 3G ipods go for in the local shops these days. Im on a stiff budget so im looking to get a 10 or 15 Gigger depending on price. Anyone have the current prices, or ballpark figure as to how much they cost nowadays?
Also, if theres anyone here selling a 3G 10 or 15GB ipod im definitly interested. Prefferably still with warranty, if not at least proof of purchase so i can apply for applecare.

About the price, orbit pretty much covered it. I got my iPod from Apple Center in Megamall last January. I payed P22,800 for the 10GB + an iSkin exo. Last time I went there they don't have the 10GB anymore (phased out). The 15GB (less the dock, remote, and case) roughly costs the same as the 10GB. The minis will be available on April.

That's really very probable. I heard that the Apple centers also had sales for the 10GB iPods, in preparation for the 15GB and the minis. If I remember it right, there was even a pinoy who was able to buy, but that was before the crash and I can't remember his name. So podNut, if the 10GB would be enough for you, better ask them first if they still have it on stock. You would probably get a very big discount!

Another question.. its really very hard to maintain a zero scratch iPod, my iPod has a few nasty scratches at the back.. whats the best scratch remover available locally? where can i get it? thanks
KEEPDATMUZICPLAYIN!
Darrell

Yup, it's ridiculously hard to maintain a scratch-free iPod. I had mine scratched on day one! (coz of my excitement, I guess :D) But just a minor one, kaya lang sa screen, kasi, I marked it with my fingerprint, then wiped it with my shirt. Twas the time I realized that it was soo not scratch resistant. Twas also the time when I started not to worry about scratches anymore. :D ....as long as it works fine. Not that I don't take care of it, I seldom remove it from its iSkin, but I get the skin off from time to time to clean it. I just wipe it with my lens cleaner and the microfiber cloth I use for my eyeglasses.
S*et, magkwento daw ba?! Hehe! I saw some iCleaner and icecream (sorry if I can't spell them right) in Virra mall, just dunno how effective they are. From the other threads, they say that Brasso is the best, just dunno if it's available here. Check other threads/forums for more info.
Just my two cents, I pretty much got over with the scratch paranoia thing, I hope you do, too coz once you do, you'll enjoy using the iPod better! ;)
orbit
03-15-2004, 02:58 PM
isn't Ice Creme (i *think* that's how it's spelled, not sure though :)) only for the lucite part?
i've never heard of iCleaner though. hmm.
my iPod has a lot of fine scratches on the chrome back from the Apple-supplied case. grrr. my iSkin does a pretty good job of protecting it now, though. the scratches don't really bother me all that much, i'm just overly concerned about my iPod's resale value. :D

03-15-2004, 09:56 PM
Thanks Darell.. where in vira mall did u find the iCleaner? :)
Darrell
03-17-2004, 06:33 AM
Hmmm... I dunno the name of the shop, but if my memory serves me right, it's somewhere on the 2nd floor, near the stairs, sorry but I can't remember the lane, too. But it's easy to find, coz they sell accessories like cases, and those sticker-type things(some with designs) you can wrap your whole iPod with to prevent scratches. I just saw the ice creme and iCleaner(I think) on the display. I didn't bother asking them coz I got the feeling it'll be a rip off. :D

NEED ADVISE !!!
Just a week ago, I bought iPod since I thought it will be so nice to have and so useful too since i travel a lot. For six hours flight which i recently had, i have been using the originally packed ear phones and it causes some discomfort after an hour or two of use. I was thinking what could be the better alternative for it, considering the size and the price of course ?
Does a non-apple earphone works better ? will it shortened the operating use of not-so-popular battery ? will it improve the sound quality?
appreciate all the help.

Bromide - I looked in the other forums like gear and they had all sorts of stuff on head/earphones. I was wondering was it really bad with the original earphones on the plane? I mean sound wise? I'm gonna be taking a trip real soon and I don't want to bother other people with my tunes or have to turn the volume up all the way just to hear them. Thanks in advance...
I looked through the pictures of the Ipod in the homeland, very nice!

i haven't tried using my iPod on a plane, but i imagine if you had the misfortune of sitting next to the engine (or whatever you call it.. basta the noisy part of the plane :D) you probably wouldn't be able to hear your music at all.

Actually, the sound is not bad (luckily im on business class so it wasnt really noisy). it just that after an hour or two, it somewhat feel uncomfortable at the ear, its not that its painful but it do bothers me. I tried using my sony earphone (just dont have the model no.), the type that you just clip at the back of the ear. but the sounds quality lessen since its not "in-ear type" unlike the original one.

Yeah, I think that could be considered as having a bit of opera, Josh Groban, perhaps? Let's call it Pop Opera! :D
If you listen to music on your computer while surfing, go to www.listen-to.com
You can make a sig that dynamically displays what you're currently listening. If tyou noticed, I had to modify my sig coz I was PM'd by an admin. Apparently I had 2 sigs so I just converted my "now playing" sig to a text type. :)

Im pretty new here too, just started posting a few days ago when i upgraded my iPod :)
I think the stock earphones are ok but i honestly think they dont quite have the full range of sound id like to hear. right now i switch between 2 kinds of phones: the Sennheiser PMX60 (http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/icm_eng.nsf/root/products_headphones_portables_04917), and a set of Bang&Olufsen earphones (http://www.bang-olufsen.com/sw711.asp) both have really great sound quality :)

hey nette the earphones i have arnt top of the line. The high end phones are usually the big ear muff looking ones that have the fat band that goes over the head.
The sennheisers are really good phones for a mid budget, the B&O's are more towards high end, perfect for listening to jazz, easy listening, acoustic, and anything that has alot of detail in terms of instruments. :)
If your going for inexpensive earphones, i suggest you stick with the stock pair coz they are already better than other stock earphones to begin with :)
nette
03-19-2004, 12:31 PM
Thanks podNut! People have been saying so many bad things about the stock ear phones I thought I would try something else. But if I don't need it then I'll save my money. Though the Senheiser's you mentioned don't seem to cost too much. Maybe I'll try those out.
podNut
03-19-2004, 01:03 PM
no prob, yea the sennheiser's are a very good buy. i like the fact that they are more comfortable than in-ear type earphones and the sound quality is great. the best thing to do i guess is bring your iPod to the shop where you plan to get the earphones and try a few out and compare them to the stock pair, im sure it will help you make your decision. thats what i did and thats why i got the sennheiser's. good luck :)

I'm currently using the iPod in-ears. I got them from the apple center in megamall for P2,800. They're not that great, but I like them and I wanted to try these in-ear types. They say Sony's EX71 are better, but I can't find them here. I can't actually recommend other brands, for I haven't tried any yet.
I never met anybody from here, dunno about the others. There's a yahoo group, ipodstudo, but I'm not that active there. I find them boring and all they talk about is their audiophilic gears. I've also been to other forums like iPodhacks and iPodstuff, but IMHO, iPodlounge is the best and is where I feel right at home. I'm always here whenever I'm connected. :)

About the thread, apparently, I can't change the name pala. I think only the mods and admin can do that. I was about to make another thread but I think this will suffice na. Sayang kasi mga post natin, malaki na tong thread eh (we already lost 9 pages due to the crash). Anyway, just let me know if you want to make another thread. My vote is no na lang.
About the forum, yes it's entirely possible, though time-consuming. But do you think it's feasible? I mean the time, effort, and expense... Hey Orbit, im still here. Actually, im ALWAYS here, i visit everydy naman e. Just havent been able to post lately coz hectic sa office e. Im posting nga now from home e. Astig Postal Service noh? Aint it cool how they sampled The classic Mario Bros. theme in brand new colony? Weird lang, ive been hearing in local radio recently (specifically NU) a local song obviously "based" on the Postal Service (dangerously encroaching "rip-off" if you ask me). I forgot the name of the song or the artist, all i know it features Ebe Dancel (of Sugarfree) on vocals. If you hear it, youll know what I mean, as it blatantly copies Postal Service's style.
Btw, where do you "get" your songs from the net? Kazaa is getting less and less useful lately...too many fake files and fewer and fewer users share coz of the RIAA crackdown. Im kinda in a musical slump lately....your turn to return the favor and recommend a good album to me :D
Wow, ang dami na nating pinoy dito ha, and i guess darell is our de facto leader, seeing how he's the most dedicated pinoy lounger lately, hehe. darrell, pa mod ka na, hehe.
I also agree with darrell, ok na sakin sa board na to. Maybe we should sked some ipod gathering (sorta like what the macheads always do at philmug, right orbit?), where we can chill, share and talk music allnight, have turns playing dj with our ipods, share ipod stories, etc. Anybody know of a good cozy place to do this?
Glad to see our community growing...more power to the pinoy podders! Woohoo!!

Hello! Its nice to know that there is another pinay in this with me!:D I'm used to being one of the few girls around with my work though. Yeah, I am out in the S. Cal region.
Username: I haven't bought headphones yet. I was this close to buying a Sony headphone at Target...but I exerted my self-control and walked away. That doesn't happen very often. hahaha! Yeah, I'm interested in headphones and it would be cool if they went behind the head/neck. That's why I liked those sennheiser's that podNut posted. But regular headphones would be cool too.

Good thing you walked away!!! Stay away from those sonystyle phones! Based from my research, the best behind the neck/head headphones in its price range is the Koss KSC-55. It is the cousin (using the same drivers) as the KSC-35 (said to be one of the best $40 phones). There's a KSC-50 too but they are clip-ons. They sound really good (well based from my opinion about my KSC-35s) but not as good as the 35s because the drivers are now a little bit farther away from your ears. One other thing that makes it a great behind the ____phones is that it is no more than $20. Target/Kmart should have them. If you want regular earphones, go to newegg.com and search for the sennheiser mx500 ($17 shipped) then go to your local radioshack and buy their $2 replacement earphone foams. The mx500 is said to be the best earphones in its price range. I promise you, get either (or both) of them, then compare them with your ipod or sony cheap phones and you'll notice a big difference. I was suprised that they sounded even better than my $150 bose headphones!

Wow! Thanks for the info username. I think I'll go check out bestbuy and see if they have the Koss headphones. Will all of these headphones still have to be cranked up during an airplane flight, and will it disturb my seat mates? Just curious... it probably doesn't even matter with everyone using the inflight phones to watch the movies. I don't know if you are a military brat like I was, but I saw some JVC headphones with noise cancellation on sale for $59 at the exchange. I was thinking about that until people mentioned that their ears hurt when they use the noise cancellation feature. I keep going between the regular headphone style or the behind the neck style. Hmmmm...
You are in LA huh? I'm out in San Diego.

No prob! Actually those phones I mentioned dont offer much isolation. I've used all my phones (you can see them on my sig) on 2 plane rides and I still hear the plane's engine. Ive tried those JVC noise cancellin' phones too at BestBuy and when I turned on the NC feature, there were alot of background noise that did disappear (people talking and walking around me, etc) but the overhead music at BestBuy just got a little bit quieter. I can still hear it but at a lower volume. I assume that it is good at blocking lower frequency sounds (talking, walking, tapping) but isnt 100% at the higher freq sounds. So since the plane's engine is more on the lower side once its up in the air, it should block more than 50% of the noise it produces. Sound quality wasnt that good though (i hooked it up on my ipod) BUT if I want atleast some silence during a plane ride, it is not that bad. Hope it was around $30 though.
Nice SanDiego. Im almost always there on weekends. In Natl City/Paradise Hills

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, I pretty got addicted here. I like helping out peeps as much as I can, and at the same time, learning more out of the whole experience. I dunno about the mod thing, though. I'm willing to try but I dunno if I could live up to it because of my schedule. Besides, I still have much to know. :)
