iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone

just installed itunes 7.3.2 and now i get error message iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone. it tells me to go to the summary tab and restore....the problem is that there is no summary tab anymore. since itunes wont read the contents, there is no more device option on the tabs that appears and therefore i dont have a tab for the iphone anymore.

what can i do? i've already reinstalled itunes 3 times now, rebooted by iphone multiple times and still no resolution. help anyone?

Try using a different USB port, if that fails use it at a different computer to see if you are experiencing the same problem. If so take your receipt and your iphone and go to your apple store.
