why don't you just transfer the files from your macbook to your new imac?

Yeah, you can migrate easily from a Macbook to an iMac with nothing more than a USB cable.

Yes, transferring from one computer to the other is a much better way to do this regardless of any transfer-from-device capabilities.

To answer the OP's specific question, however, you cannot transfer media content from the iPhone back to your computer unless it is purchased content (from the iTunes Store). Any other content is a one-way transfer, and none of the third-party utilities that presently exist to do this for the iPod will support the iPhone, as it lacks the "disk mode" that these tools rely on.

See last week's Ask iLounge column (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/ask-ilounge-8-2-07) for a more specific discussion on this.

well, the only real thing i care about is my videos (all purchased) and i can just put my songs on a flash drive.

so would i be able to transfer purchased videos from iphone, to another computer?

the thing about computer to computer is i have to sell one to get money for another.

Yes, any purchased content can be transferred back to iTunes using the "Transfer Purchases" option, as long as the computer in question is authorized for the iTunes Store account that was used to purchase that content. You will just have to manually authorize it by going to Store, Authorize Computer in iTunes before you try to do this.

As an aside, also be sure you DEauthorize your old computer for your iTunes Store account before you get rid of the old computer or reinstall the operating system.

It's a shame you won't have both computers in your possession for a few hours so you can transfer everything over. It's a bummer to have to reset everything on a new machine and with Apple's current migration assistant, that whole process is super smooth. Oh well. You gots to do what you gots to do.
