I was the first of my friends to own an iPod back in the day and there were two types of reactions I would get:

Those that say wow, is that the new iPod???? how much did that cost, how many songs are on it? and so on.

Then most of my friends would just make fun of me for owning it and put an iXXXXX in front of anything when they spoke with me. While they saw it as a great device they had to make fun of my love for it.

Then when I purchased my iPhone I have received the same reactions.

Is that an iPhone? Can I see it? How many songs does it have? Does the calculator really do addition? (just kidding) but I also heavily harassed by all of my friends. Saying their phone that cost 24.99 can make the same calls!

Has anyone else noticed this in their month of owning an iPhone?

I think this product will sink in just as the iPod has. Its key for success will be dropping maps and safari from a nano/mini version and making a quality phone with out every bell and whistle that you can just add your phone voice plan in on and not pay a penny more.

Apple really knows how to develop a winner.

I owned the 1G iPod from the day it came out. I never had a single person give me crap about it. Even people I thought would do so were wowed by it when they saw it. Whenever I took it with me to parties and such, I'd have a hard time keeping it in my hand. Everyone else would grab it and start messing with it and I wouldn't see it again for hours.

iPhone, not as much. People are already up to speed on iPods and phones. They want to see it and they think it's cool but it's not the same reaction of amazement that the iPod got out of people. The iPod was truly revolutionary. The iPhone is really more evolution than revolution.

I'm not convinced that there will be an iPhone Nano. The virtual keyboard on iPhone is already almost too small to use. Putting it on a smaller device wouldn't work for anyone outside of children with small hands. The clickwheel as an interface for dialing numbers is a good idea but text entry wouldn't work very well at all. Apple could prove me wrong but I'm not holding my breath for a Nano iPhone.

Well, at least, they know how to convince people that they developed a winner. iPhone has it's share of problems. The lack of cut/copy/paste being the primary one in my opinion.

That's what in The Sopranos they call Breaking Balls. Unless they don't stop then it's juvenile.

Lets not be so hasty. But whether an iPod-class winner or not, I believe everybody think Apple did a good thing of injecting excitement into the doldrum cell scene.
