I was thinking of using MP3 Gain to normalize my collection. I am unsure though because I heard it can cause serious distortion. What do you guys/girls think?

I use it all the time and it does nothing but wonders for me, it works perfect!

I'll never use mp3 gain again. It has seriously distorted, deranged, and de-gooded a LOT of my music. >:(

I want my tunes to be louder...but not if they come out distorted. I'm unsure as to what I should do.

Never had a problem with any of the 2000 plus mp3's of mine. I set all mine at 94.

It will distort your tunes if you set the volume too high. But if you set it at a reasonable level (like revmike's 94) it won't change anything to your mp3's expect the volume, it is lossless anyway, so can undo your changes. Also Mp3gain lets you see until what point you can raise the level of your mp3s without distorting them (clipping), so you can choose easily.

I copied a cpl of songs and tried it out. For whatever reason I didnt notice much of a volume gain until I hit that threshold and it got distorted. Guess I wont be using it either.
