Interesting article. (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/google-vows-bid-billions-spectrum/story.aspx?guid=%7BB50FD562-29E9-41E7-A288-EE54869AA9A0%7D) Given the increasingly tight relationship between Apple and Google, could this spell a new Google branded carrier for iPhone? Seems like a logical conclusion.

Is it going to be a cell phone, or might it just be a VOIP phone of some kind?

Hard to say, really. They haven't announced any specific plans. Mainly it sounds like they want the cell networks to be open and that's a big part of their motivation. However, if they get a license it wouldn't be too far fetched to think that an Apple/Google alliance could lead to an Apple/Google branded cell service IMO.

I doubt we will see a cellphone iPhone anytime soon, but a voip phone would be very interesting to me. Imagine being able to take you home phone with you, whereever you go, and Apple wouldn't technically be competing with the ATT phone.

Even if they're going in the direction I'm suggesting, it wouldn't happen "anytime soon" but I completely agree that Skype or the like would be the ultimate iPhone killer ap.
