Autocheck not autochecking

I have a gmail account and another (POP) account setup and working on my iPhone. However, I notice that it doesn't matter what selection I have on Autocheck, my phone appears to check at random. Sometimes hours will have gone by and I know I am getting email on my accounts but will have no sign of this from the phone. When I go into the mail app it shows the last time updated as some time (hours) ago. Hitting the little refresh icon (lower left of inbox screen) will cause it to check and sure enough the mail shows up.

Has anyone else seen this? I had not seen this listed on any bug report yet.

I have mine set to check at every half hour and it's usually good. It is possible during these increments you don't have connection to edge or wifi?

Not unless it's losing its connection and I am not aware of it. Every time I have checked it in my office I have 5 bars and the E symbol. I apparently live in one of those rare areas of the world where ATT/Cingular has the best service.

I will try moving it to 30 minutes and see if that helps. I would prefer 15 minutes but if it works on 30 and skips on 15 I can live with 30. Thanks
