I was having the widely reported problems synching contacts and calendar with Outlook (error when launching Outlook, iTunes Sync plugin being disabled, etc.). Well, since I installed the update to iTunes that was released today, the problems are all gone!
Outlook opens without an error, the iTunes Sync plugin stays enabled, and most importantly, my contacts and calendar sync in both directions (new items, deleted items and changed items).
Has anyone else had this kind of luck? Nothing else on my system has changed; just the iTunes and Quicktime update.
Hooray!
I guess the Apple product specialist I spoke to Tuesday night wasn't lying when he said they were working to get a fix by the end of the week.

Well I'm glad someone got this working. But unforutunately I'm not one of them. I installed iTunes 7.3.1 and also re-installed Outlook 2003 just to be sure. I'm still seeing the exact same problem as before.
Contacts and Calendar items don't sync to my iPhone and the iTunes plugin in Outlook doesn't stay enabled.... sniff
I guess I'll wait for the next release.

Hey guys - I just spent several hours on the phone with both Apple and Microsoft and I had the same problems as you and I got it resolved. Here's How (Hopefully for you)
This solves Outlook not syncing with the iPhone
Goto the "Tools" menu and select "Trust Center"
Select "Add-Ins"
And see if under the "Disabled Items" list there is an Item "Outlook iTunes Sync Addin"
If it's there, that's your problem. Go to the bottom of that box and there is a drop down next to Manage and the default is "COM Add-ins" click that and select "Disabled Items".
A box will pop up with the Outlook Sync in it. Click that one and then click "Enable" then "Ok" Then "Ok" again to close the main Trust Center and then close Outlook and wait a few seconds (like 5) then Open Outlook back up and try your sync.
Should work, mine did....
Hope this helps guys...

The Outlook syncing has been driving me nuts too. I haven't been able to narrow down why one appointment syncs and another doesn't. However I did just try something that seems to have resolved some issues.
Not sure if this would work for anyone else, but my company used a custom form in our outlook calendar (it has some special meeting template we're supposed fill out). normally, i'd just clear out the contents of the form and save my appointment. I set new appointments to use the default form (IPM.appointment) instead of the custom form and had success syncing. Maybe give that a shot?
to set you form:
Select Go > Folder List
right click on Calendar in the folder list and select Properties
Set When posting to this folder, use: toIPM.appointment

I have just updated to itunes 7, I have a 60g Ipod, and still can not get it to sync with MS Outlook 2003. I've tried everything that is in print as a fix! I can only wait at this point until someone figures out a work around.... I even tried the calendar - preferences - ipm suggestion, but found my Outlook was already set correctly.
Waiting, but not that patiently! Hope someone discovers a fix.

I am running XP SP2 and Outlook 2003 and iTunes 7.2.3.6, long story short, it syncs some appointments but not all appointments.
After many hours on the phone with Apple (who denies this problem exists) I removed my Outlook 2003, iTunes, and com addins and reinstalled everything. I created a brand new .PST file, no mail, no contacts, just four appointments. Two appointments occuring just once and two recurring appointments. It only synched the two recurring appointments
A week ago they said they escalatesd this to engineering and I have not heard back since.
While the rest of the iPhone is a dream, it is a nightmare without an accurate calendar. I had to go and buy the Blackberry Curve (I have 30 days to return it :D ) until and if Apple fixes this problem.
It is unimaginable that with clean installs of Outlook and iTunes and a clean .PST with 4 appointments only two of them sync.
Has anyone successfully found a fix for this problem or have any new information from Apple (who still denies this problem exists)!

Just wanted to say that my sync with outlook contacts and appointments sync'd flawlessly. Maybe the bugs have been worked out.

How, there has not been a new release of iTunes since 7.2.3.6. What version of the OS are you using and what version of Outlook??

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.
It worked but the thing I've noticed is that all of my sync'd appointments are displaying on my iPhone 4 hours after their scheduled time. :\

I have the exact same setup - XP, Outlook 2003 and the very latest itunes v 7.2.3.6. as I just got the iphone on the 23rd for my birthday. And while I am having a lot of fun with the device, the maps, the video etc, setting up receiving company emails required a serious workaround and the sync'ing of the calendar is driving me crazy. No rhyme or reason for what it transferred before crashing; I went ahead and added some of the mtgs manually (i had fun with that wheelie screen) Funny thing with adding recurring mtgs - there is no way of adding a daily meeting, Mo - Fr, so right now it shows them also on Sat and Sun.
I guess if we all call Apple with this problem they wont be able to deny this problem exists?

THEY STILL DENY IT AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT FIXED IT - SAME THING ON EVERYTHINGIPHONE.COM APPLE SAYS PROBLEM DOES NOT EXIST. Some tech Amanda promised me a fix from 3rd level support in 5 to 7 days, that was 3 weeks ago, not emails no phone calls. What is going on at Apple??????
I actually had to go out and buy a Blackberry Curve which works flawlessly, I thing I'm going to send the bill to Steve Jobs!
