I need some help/advice about a problem with an iPod interface recently installed in my 2003 MINI Cooper. I use it with a Nano and after a few minutes of play, I'm unable to control the iPod through the stereo buttons. It works fine starting out, but then it just freezes up, though it continues cycling through the songs. I can't move forward or backward through the playlists or song-by-song. Also, when I disconnect my iPod, it continues in "play" mode; I have to reset the thing every time and then shut it off manually.

The mechanic who installed this -- who only services BMWs and MINIs and claims to know what he's doing -- says he's done all he can do and that it's a problem with the iPod and/or its software. However, I've used an adapter on another car and my iPod works fine with it, so I'm thinking it's a problem with the way the interface was hooked up or with the radio itself.

Any suggestions?

My educated diagnostic is... he's partially right about iPod software... It's very simple, the software in the Mini and iPod don't communicate correctly. So what are u going to do? The least the "genius" mechanic should tell you is, there is no "known" compatibility probs between the mini and the nano. Then you should ask the Mx to print you ALL service bulletins on the mini related to the iPod. You are looking for software incompatibility. For example, if somewhere in the Mini documentation says its works with Nano firmware x.xx, then THAT's the nano firmware they tested it on. If your nano has a different/newer firmware.... u see where am going with this.
