OK. I went into my local Apple store today (Annapolis, MD) and the 6 of their employees could not even come up with a solution for me...so this forum is probably my last resort. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me out.

I recently bought a 2007 Acura TL (hence the name) and one of it's new features is that you can hook your ipod directly a AUX line into the stereo. They put that connection, along with a cigarette lighter power source, in a nice little compartment below the armrest of the car. I went out and bought a cheap 1/8" mini-stereo plug - hooked it up and my 3rd gen - 15GB - ipod works terrific while the stero is in AUX mode. I also purchased a Belkin Power Jolt Kit at Radioshack...which I bought ONLY for the power adapter (I wanted to be able to plug in my ipod to the power source too...so the ipod would always be powered up and I wouldn't have to worry about the battery constantly). Ok, so I'm in my new car with the 3rd gen ipod blaring thru the stereo...ALL IS WELL.

Then, I pull the Belkin power adapter out of it's box and plug it in to the bottom of the ipod and the ipod immediately LOST IT'S FUNCTIONALITY. It was still playing the music, but I couldn't get the ipod to respond at all. Then, when I unplugged the power adapter from the ipod, it got it's functionality back! So, something about the power adapter being plugged in to the ipod is making me lose the functionality of it.

So, my question to you all is this: Is there an "old-school" power adapter that I can get...that will not give me this problem? All of the newer car ipod kits say that they will handle 2nd and 3rd gen ipods (yada, yada, yada) but it's pretty obvious that they will not work with my older ipod. I do have an ipod Video and a new shuffle...that would probably have worked with the Power Jolt connection kit that I bought...but I don't want either of those two in my car. I WANT TO USE MY 3RD GEN IPOD...THERE HAS GOT TO BE A CAR ADAPTER OUT THERE THAT WOULD WORK FOR ME RIGHT???? - A frustrated TL Owner

I think there might be something wrong with your the power adapter that you purchased, not your car's DC plug. I suggest that you purchase another car DC (ie cigarette) charger, one that isn't made by Belkin. You might have purchased a dud unit. Also, how long has it been since you have restored your iPod?

I do not understand why you would loose the Ipod functions when the charger cord is plugged.

You mention a 3rd Gen Ipod, you probably have Firewire ports on it.

Find yourself a Firewire to Car lighter charger adapter and you should be fine.

I do have 2005TL with an Input adapter and use the Belkin Auto Kit with my 5.5G 80BG ipod.
