Okay, okay, so there's a sucker born every minute. And lots of folks don't take the trouble to do a bit or research before they buy. But in any case, I'm wondering who is the more stupid: sellers on eBay thinking they can get high prices for their iPhones; or buyers who don't know any better and can still get one at list price?
The sellers, if they invested too much, might lose out if buyers realise they can get one cheaper from a retail outlet or from Apple's on-line store. The buyers, it seems, are prepared to pay a small premium for those advertising free shipping (or in at least one case, free drop-off). To be fair, most iPhones don't have any bids on them.
One seller has a Buy-it-Now option for $25,000 and I'm sure he's not joking. One has a $3,000 price tag while most hover around the $1,000 mark. Funny, but with a few minutes of web browsing you can have your own iPhone for list price.
Surely with all those iPhones listed, who's going to buy the premium priced ones? It seems that some shoppers don't actually know that things can actually be bought... like... outside of eBay. Well it is a seller's market that's for sure. The desire to win the auction is sadly stronger in some buyers than common sense.
One just sold for $737.27. Is that worth the premium for free shipping I wonder?
I hope that news outlets do a bit of public service and let folks know that the iPhone is not yet out of stock.
