Hello,
I had one for my iPod, whereas with just the dock connector you could charge in the car, and the charger had audio out to go to head unit. I was disappointed to see that none are out yet for iPhone. Anyone know any that are coming out?
Thanks,
CP

Well I did some reading it it seems for an audio out device for the iphone it needs some kind of authentication chip, so that may be why it will take a while for something like this.

Speaker systems that use dock connector seem to work fine.

Doesn't the iphone go into airplane mode though?

You can use the regular one for IPOD. It will asked you if you want to go to airplane mode choose no, and then the Iphone charge with no problem. I already try it.

Are you saying that the audio out coming through the dock connector works and that the charger also works? If so which brand and model of charger with audio out are you using?
I've seen several reports unfortunately indicating that the Belkin Auto Kit (with line out) does not work. That's been my favorite for years.

Yea amb1s1, tell us more. I used to have the monster car charger with line out... but the line out on that doesnt work with iPhone. :(

My Belkin Auto kit is worthless for the iPhone. It neither charges, nor passes the audio to the cassette adaptor. I really liked this thing too. Wonder if it will accept a line in through the dock as well to make a hands free kit for your car.

I have an older white Belkin Auto Kit (most likely the first version released) and it both charges the iPhone, AND plays audio through the dock. It's old, and the wire is fraying on it, so since it works with my iPhone, I bought a black Auto Kit, and it does not work with audio. :(

I have a Peripheral Electronics (PXDP) iPod adapter in my Scion and it works well in Airplane Mode. You plug in the iPhone, a message appears asking if you want to switch to Airplane mode, tap yes and the audio is fed through the car stereo. The radio controls work with the iPhone, or you can control playback directly with the iPhone. It charges while connected, and when disconnected automatically switches out of Airplane Mode.

A few questions:
1) Does the PXDP line-out and charging work without airplane mode?
2) Does the PXDP disable the iPhone's on-screen manual iPod menu control. I've seen reports that other Car interface units seem to work as well, (despite the fact that simple charger line-out units mostly don't). I'm just looking for a pattern on what's similar with units that work and ones that don't

Are you saying that you've tried this with an iPhone and that both charging and audio-out are working? If so, are they both working while in airplane mode and while NOT in airplane mode?

I really want a gooseneck charger for my iPhone. Plug into my cigarette lighter and then I can adjust the phone so I can see it and access it easily for maps and making/receiving calls. It would make it much easier.

I have the PDXP from peripheral but when I plug my iphone into it, the audio works (even without airplane mode turned on) but it sucks my iphone battery dry. I had it plugged in for 10 minutes and my iphone got really hot and it dropped my battery by about 25%. Anyone else seen anything like this???
It has done this to two iphones now and a buddy of mine also has his belkin car charger (not sure if it has audio interface or not) doing the same thing to his iphone battery.
This thing works great with my older ipod as well as both the nano's in our household.
I'd go talk to the "geniuses" about it, but last time I went to talk to them it took up about 4 hours, even with an appointment because they are so crazy busy.

i try the peripheral white and black box and it didn't work right ,also i got errors from the iphone
i am using a full regulated power supply 12 v 3 amps and i notices that in 1 minute the amps
when up almost 3 times compare to normal and the phone was a little warn not hot
now reading your message i understand more there is a problem charging the battery
there is a short somewhere in the connection
simple the iphone is not compatible with this interface i try 4 other brands and this didn't happen
don't plug the iphone to that interface again you are losing battery life and can damage the battery or the phone

So I talked to peripheral today and they said that the unit was compatible with the iPhone. The "older" PXPD (what I have) is supposed to have no problems at all. The newer units work, but some of the functionality doesn't sync up in regards to displaying the folders on the head unit. They are all supposed to play audio and charge fine.
So that makes me wonder what's going on? What is defective, the phone or the unit? The peripheral unit works great with the three ipods in the family...
Not that I'm glad it didn't work for you, but at least someone has similar experiences. I did try it again after screwing around with my PXDP installation. Only had it plugged in for a few minutes but it was similar to what you describe. Seemed to work ok for a few minutes then the phone started to heat up and you could watch the battery meter drop by checking it every once-in-a-while...

I installed the USA-spec (www.usaspec.com) CD changer adaptor into my Toyota tundra. It works fine for charging and playing from my iPhone. It doesn't allow the use of the stereo as a hands free speaker for the phone, but it seems to play just fine.
It doesn't work exactly right yet. If you try to use the iPhone in "hybrid mode" with the adaptor, it locks the iPhone's iPod interface and won't allow you to scroll and view the songs on your iPod. It is locked in to a playlist only mode where it will only play certain playlists. For they iPod, it allows you to freely navigate your iPod's songs as well as control playlists with your car's CD player keys (or steering wheel keys).
There is a "browse mode" that works just fine with the iPhone. It won't allow you to set your playlists as discs that can be changed from your head unit or steering wheel, but it will just unlock your iPhone's interface and let you select your music directly from your iPhone. This is what I've been using.
I've sent an email to USA-Spec and they say that the iPhone software is just not up to snuff with the iPod's yet, but they expect to support additional functionality with the units in the future (whenever Apple allows the interface control on the iPhone that is available on the iPod).

Peripheral Electronics iSimple is the white clear box, when plug in to my iphone i get errors
no there is only one error ( wrong accessory ) on the phone and works but i believe it is killing the battery the phones gets very hot i also notice it sends 13.2 volts to the phone, the usb cable only sends 5 volts
this happen in only 10 minutes, i don't want to try any longer

Two suggestions - if you want to:
Charge iPhone/iPod Touch plus Audio out -
Get one of the iPhone car charging cables (I like the XtremeMac InCharge Auto, $20) and use it with your iPhone Dock or a Universal Dock. If you can find a place to mount the dock, then you've got charging and audio out in a convenient package.
Note: Some people have complained that the line-out level of the Docks is too high and causes distortion when used with some radios or tape adapters. To fix this, you can get a short headphone cable at Radio Shack for about $5 with an inline volume control, and use that to dial down the volume.
Full integration with your OEM stereo -
This is what I'm doing now - I've got an '01 Acura MDX and got a Grom Audio iPod adapter off eBay for about $70. It came with the adapter, Honda harness and iPod dock cable. I don't know how the USA*SPEC or other adapters work, but this one:
Charges the iPhone, even when the car is off
Pauses playback when car or radio is turned off, or when switching to another source
Allows me to control the iPhone with steering wheel, radio controls or by touching the screen
This is pretty much exactly what I wanted and it works perfectly, except for the little unsupported accessory message, but I expected that. Now I just need to find a good way to mount it.
