I really want one, but wanted to wait and confirm a few things first.
So are there tasks or to do lists?
Can you push GMail? How about checking email from google apps?
How is the interface to enter a new event on the calendar? Can you assign it a category?
Thanks!

I don't own an iPhone yet (being in Canada), but I've been through the manual a couple of times for research purposes, so I can answer some of these questions...
There is no indication of any task support on the iPhone in the manual -- only calendar events.
Further, although you can enter appointments, there is no indication of any ability to set a category/calendar, or any indication that the calendar/category information from iCal/Outlook is in any way transferred across from the desktop.
The documentation also clearly indicates that only Yahoo is supported for push e-mail, and that for Exchange support, IMAP must be enabled on the Exchange server (ie, no ActiveSync yet).
Nothing specific is said about GMail, beyond simply listing it as one of the many different mail services you can use.

Can you sync through push with Yahoo Calendar?
The Yahoo calendar does have tasks in it. Anyone tried this?
This might be the answer - Yahoo has Sync with Outlook.

There is no Yahoo calendar support directly on the iPhone. You can sync your Yahoo Address Book but not your Yahoo calendar.
The iPhone calendar will only sync with Outlook 2003 on a PC, or iCal on a Mac. Although both of these have tasks support (and in fact tasks are more directly integrated in the case of iCal), the iPhone itself doesn't appear to have any support for tasks in the calendar application.

I'm trying hard to figure out a way to make this thing work for me!
But I guess I'll just have to wait until they do some revisions.

The only workaround for now to the lack of task support would be to put your tasks in your calendar. Some people do this as a natural matter of course, preferring their tasks to be in the calendar instead of a separate to-do list anyway. I'm not one of those people, but I have done this a bit in the past when using mobile phones that had no task support (most don't, in fact, unless it's an actual smartphone/PDA device).
