Anyone elses iphone not play in itunes?

I called Apple because while my iphone is docked and finished syncing in itunes all of my songs and videos are greyed out, I can't play them at all on my imac. Everything works fine playing through the iphone when it's not attahced to my computer. Apple told me to unistall itunes, they said I'd lose all of my music except my purchased itunes music. I have 12 gigs of music, and don't want to do this. They then told me to wait a few days for a possible fix. Any ideas?

This is normal for iPods as well as iPhones it seems. You can only play music through an iPod when the iPod is set in disk mode and manually managing your music on it. The iPhone doesn't yet allow these settings. Thus you can't play music currently on the iPhone through your computer. Why you would want to is beyond me considering the fact that the iPhone is currently mirroring what is in your library anyway.
