that is a silly question, of course other sim cards would not work with the iphone. Sim's are carrier specific. The better question: is it confirmed, will we be able to buy unlocked iphones in the future?

I doubt it considering the fact that apple has a deal with att ATM. Currently you can't even sync the iPhone with iTunes until you've completed the activation process. I would be very surprised if an unlocked version of the phone ever became available in the US.
