Anybody have experience with both the Scosche transmitter/charger (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4694330) mentioned in this monster thread (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=138342&highlight=iptrnsx) and the Sonnet Podfreq mini? I used to use a Newertech Roadtrip 107.7 model with my iPod mini, which is an excellent, simple FM transmitter, but my wife now uses it for her non-iPod player, Newertech stopped making that model, and I've heard some not-so-good feedback ont .

I know that both the Scosche and the Podfreq will charge, the Scosche can be used with other equipment through the headphone jack, and the Podfreq's FM transmitter is powered by the iPod itself, so it looks like it can be used with any radio.

Specifically, I'm trying to find out the signal strength and sound quality of both so I can make a more informed comparison.

I've now tried both, and figured I'd post my results for anyone in the same boat as me.

The PodFreq Mini wins hands-down, at least where I am (Maine, not quite as radio-congested as some parts of the country). I have it tuned to 107.7, same as my trusty old Newertech, and there's no bleed at all from the stations around that frequency. I also like the ability to use it with any radio, not just in the car.

The Scosche, which I bought at WalMart then immediately returned, had nothing close to the transmitter power of the PodFreq. Granted, with an FM transmitter you'll always have some hiss, but it's nearly undetectable with the PodFreq, where the Scosche sounded like it was transmitting my iPod through an 8-bit sampler or something.

The PodFreq seems to be on sale for about $15 at most places, so I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a charger/FM transmitter for an old iPod mini. I got mine from CompUSA's online store, which uses Google checkout - so it was even cheaper with the Google first-time checkout discount.
