This is the best was to connect your iPod to your cars radio if you dont have an integration kit available.
I drive an older car with a great sounding factory harmon/kardon stereo and I'm pretty picky about sound quality so I never bothered with any of the wireless FM transmitters. There are no fully integrated kits available for my car so I found this Hard wired FM transmitter box at crutchfield. Its really easy to install and it is basically a junction box with an antenna cable output for any radio, and an RCA inputs. It also icludes the Headphone jack cable that adapts to the rca input of the box, so its all you really need. And once you play with the EQ its really just about as good as playing a CD.

The only problem with it is that it doesnt charge the iPod, so I had to get a separate charger to plug into the dock jack to charge off the cigarette lighter. I really hated this because now I have cables hanging out of both sides of the iPod, and it doesnt look nice and neat with the cables runing into the cigarette lighter. I want everything to look like it belongs. So I knew exactly what kind of cable I was looking for and I actually found one today on ebay.

I just bought it today so I cant say if it works, but I dont see why it wouldnt. Its simply wired in for the charging portion, and it also takes the audio signal off the dock connector which is also a better signal than the headphone jack. And since the RCA jacks plug right into thejunction box behind my dash and I'll splice in the power wires back there too, all I will have is one small wire coming up through my console with the dock connector. The audio signal should even be better now, I'll update once I receive it and plug it in. The cable even has a video RCA cable to connect to a monitor if you have one of those in your car. (I Dont) I'm pretty anxious though, so if anyone has used this cable, does it work well? Thanks.

A Belkin Auto Kit (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=149006) will be cleaner and easier (comes in black too)

Your project looks interesting, mazcrumple. Where do you plug it in your head unit? The antenna port? Did yours work? We'd appreciate an update.

and also won't sound as good. he just said he didn't want wireless because of the sound quality. hardwired fm modulators have better sound quality than any wireless solution.

Belkin Auto Kits are not wireless. They have a 1/8" output with gain control for a direct connection.

sry you're right it's not wireless.

however, it's by no means cleaner than what the OP is doing. you're gonna have the charger sticking out of your cig lighter with another cable daisy-chained and going into your dash to hookup to your modulator. the OP has everything hidden inside the console with only the dock connector cable visible.
