so the last time I had an iPod break on me , I went to the apple store and they forced me to pay a $35 recycling fee. I thought this was BS. But they gave me the option to buy the apple care which I was planning n buying anyway so it wasn't to bad, so if I got the apple care it came with the recycling.

I wanted to know does Apple still do this, I need to go back to the apple store because another iPod of mine broke and I wanted to know if they still do this recycling fee thing. I called the Apple care 1800 number and they had no idea about it. if they do, I go throgh the 800 number as $35 ain't worth it.

Recycling fees are normal, but $35 bux!?? wow.

If true, I guess Apple's "we are green" is more like "make customer pay for it."

What State do you live in, and are they asking for the $35 as part of the warranty exchange? (i.e. what sort of transaction was this?)

The iPod broke and they agreed to replace it right then and there. It was in the NY SoHo store. So I live in NYC, NY

I think recycling fee's are dumb, I can throw it away myself.

Well don't do that... plenty of recycling centers will take it from you... Every so often Office Depot will have recycling weeks.

I think you got spun.

Apple will now take iPods and recyle them and give you 10% off a new iPod...

As part of warranty exchange they shouldn't ask for any money either.

it would not be unusual for some places to ask for disposal fees to cover costs of getting rid of hazardous things.

Note that depending on where you live, if you get caught throwing out objects that contain lead into normal trash expect hefty hefty fines.

That sucks big time. Obviously the person tried to con you so they could pocket the money themselves. Not a real trust worthy employee. Apple gives you a discount on your next iPod purchase by giving it in. Plus most of the time they just fix it a bit and then sell it again as refurbished for even more money!
