I'll try my best to explain the situation without trying to make it sound too long-winded or boring:
OK, I plug in my 3rd Gen. iPod to my Windows XPSP2 pc, and the autoplay window pops up (its blank). I opened My Computer, the Ipod is listed, but it says "Apple iPod" and not "Abe's iPod", which it should say. Double-clicking on it results in Windows explorer freezing big time. I've tried using iTunes, Songbird, and Yamipod and all apps do the same thing when the iPod is plugged into the USB port, they lock up and do not respond until the iPod is unplugged.
I've also tried plugging the iPod in while in Disk Mode, running the iPod Diagnostics tests (all successful), tried plugging the iPod into another PC that was just reloaded with a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 (same thing occurs, explorer/apps lock up), and rebooting the iPod. I have NEVER used this iPod with a Mac. There are about 3000 songs on this thing that play fine - I just want to add some songs to it. Only about a couple months ago the hard drive and battery was replaced.
I've tried running the iPod Updater but I get either an "iPod Service Error" or the thing just freezes.
I think what will need to be done is a ipod firmware reinstall, however I'm clueless as to how this can be done at this point.
This is tricky. Any help is appreciated!
