Howdy-
So, I pre-ordered an album and downloaded the first single.
Then when I downloaded the rest of the songs, and moved them to the pod, problems ensued.
The single was listed differently on iTunes (as the last track on the album rather than the second one), so I went and corrected all of the album information to ensure it was consistent.
In iTunes, it's fine.
When I move the album to my 4G photo pod, though, it has the single as song #2... and lists it at the bottom of the album.
Everything else in the "Get info" box is the same. Everything. But the pod still won't recognize the song as track 2.
Suggestions?
Thanks!!

This is something I just experienced myself. I have contacted the customer service to complain.
I can't find out exactly why it won't sort correctly. My guess is you are using iTunes 7 and might be sorting by "album by year" or "album by artist". If you switch to sort by plain album you may find that it is out of order in iTunes as well.
Make sure that album artist is the same for all tracks. My guess is that you just preordered "It won't be soon before long" (given that track #2 is the problem track) same one I'm having issues with. This is the second album from iTunes I have had issues with. The other being Meatloaf's bat out of hell which I accidently downloaded single by single and downloaded some of the songs from one version of the album and the last one from another, even though all tags are correct it won't sort...
There is something about the sorting of albums that uses some strange method of sorting and doesn't pay attention to the track order. If all tags are correct, there is no fix for the iPod. The fix in iTunes is simple, sort by album by year or by artist, but on the iPod, the only solution I can make is to have a playlist of the album if I want to play it start to finish there....
I have my complaint out to iTunes Store. I'm hoping they are going to allow a redownload of the problem track.... But we'll see.
The only thing I've yet to try is to burn to audio CD and rerip... I'm reluctant to do this, but it may be the only way if iTunes doesn't respond back. I may try this with my Meatloaf album today.
If I get a response from iTunes in the positive I will post back.

Great guess as to the artist/title. :)
Let me know if you hear back from iTunes or if the rip solution works.
Thanks again!

Greets.
I heard back from a nice guy at iTunes. He went through the whole tagging thing, and then suggested I make a playlist for my iPod.
I responded that none of his ideas worked for the tagging and I had tried very hard to be sure all was correct, but that it wasn't working. I said that making a playlist was fine and dandy, but was a simple "work around" and did not solve the underlying issue and I was mildy insulted by it as a "solution".
He emailed back and gave me a download credit to try to download the song again. In doing it, the new track sorts to the top now! Bleh. They got some issues if you ask me with some songs.... he says they are on top of things to try to prevent stuff like this from happening in the future. He didn't think that redownloading would fix the problem... He was right.
I reriped my Meat Loaf album and reripping did fix the problem for that particular album. I haven't tried it with the Maroon 5 one, but my assumption would be it would work.
Oh well. That's my story.
