Ipod won't turn off

I have tried everything to turn my Ipod off. It's been like this for over a month now. I have tried resetting, reinstalling, going to a song then pausing then trying to turn it off. But nothing works. Nothing except plugging it into the wall charger, when I plug it in it turns off fine. I can then unplug it without it turning back on. But that's really annoying cos I have to always plug it in to turn it off. Please give me some advice!! Help me, I'm really desperate. Oh by the way its a 20 Gig old click wheel from late 2004.

hm.
if you go into Settings>Menu then click on Sleep, it will add it to the Main Menu on the iPod.
that might work.

or

you could leave it for a few minutes and it will turn off its self

thankyou for replying. I have tried both of those things though unfortunatly...I am beginning to think I'm the only one that's had this problem!

the battery might be the problem?
