I was adding songs to my daughters Ipod and this little lock appear in Itunes at the bottom of the main screen. All the songs on her Ipod are greyed out and I am unable to add songs to it now! How do I get that "lock" to go away? I dont know how it got there in the first place? The other 2 Ipods the family has do not have this....Thanks for the info in advance.
Its an Ipod Nano with windows fat 32, V1.4.1 software on a windows Xp machine.

It sounds like the iPod got set to auto sync music. Hi-lite the iPod in iTunes and select the Summary tab in the right pane. Check the box beside "Manually manage music".

U can't add file while the iPod is being updated. Surely there is *some* indication that it's doing that. Just wait, be patience, while it finishes updating.

No, that wasnt it. I set them all to manually sync. After reading some of these posts, the Ipods seem to have some problems with some peoples PC, and some work without a glitch. I have read many posts on here just to gather info as well as the documentation that came with it. I use the Ipods USB plug to add music and update it. That is slower than I thought but if I wait it usually works.
This particular Ipod seems to have alot of problems. It will not update to the newest software. It only had a few songs so I thought updating it would help solve some of the issues. When I try to update it, I get an "Unknown error" has occured screen in the Itunes program. It also will not add new songs. It shows them added in Itunes but they dont show up on the Ipod. Any clues on how to work around the update issue? Or maybe start a new thread for another issue. Thanks....
