View Full Version : Not so sure this is an ipod problem, but...

... it involves an ipod, and its bugging me. When I select a song, sometimes, the ipod does not display the artist and album of the song that its playing, but instead, shows all the information (or none at all) in the title of the song. For example, the title of a song would be something like this.

Sting and the Police - Message in a Bottle - Sting and the Police - 01

Cumbersome, no?
I know this is due to the fact that there is no information entered in those positions (artist, album). This brings me to my question - is there a way, or a program to do it for me, to automatically input the proper information, where it is due, and take the track numbers out of the title? Do I have to do it manually? How? Thanks.

Also, just another little thing. How can I find and eliminate duplicate songs on my ipod, automatically? With what program? Thanks.

Try mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/). The features you want are in the Convert menu (if you have filenames that have the information, but the tags are empty), and the Tag Sources menu (most of the file information is missing, and you have to try and discover it yourself). The program will work if you have a consistent pattern to file names in the first case, and whole albums in the second case.

A duplicate file finder is incorporated into iTunes itself - but it is a very weak one, as it just looks for identically tagged songs. Its in the View Menu/Show Duplicates. It may be of some help.
