I had this problem on my previous 1G Nano, and on my new 8GB 2G Nano. I'm assuming it's either the way the software is or some setting I don't know about...

I mainly use two playlists--one for podcasts, one for music. Each weekend I sync the ipod, and it updates the new podcasts. It may or may not update the music playlist, depending upon what I've played. At the beginning of the week I listen to the podcast playlist. When I've gone through all the podcasts, I switch to my music playlist. I would have thought it would remember the previous position in the music playlist, i.e., it would just go to the song I had last listened to on the music playlist, but instead it goes back to the first song on the list.

Is there some setting I'm missing that will stop this behavior? When I switch back to the music playlist, I want to pick up from where I was before.

Thanks.

when I sync my playlists I sometimes have to sync once or twice. Itīs as if the first sync simply updates, but the second sync really erases and puts in the new music. Also check the criteria for the update: most of my playlists are on least frequently played, so it syncs that. Every now and again, it does something I donīt want, but not very often.

Yes, mine does that, too. But the problem here isn't the updating per se, it's the fact that if I switch from my music playlist to my podcast playlist, then do an update (even if nothing on the music playlist updates), then back to the music playlist, the ipod doesn't remember what song in the music playlist I was listening to before I switched to the podcast playlist.

iPods don't remember where in a playlist you left off. If you want that, you can kind of trick them: Change your music playlist to bump songs out for awhile once they've been played (e.g. Last Played > 14 days), but make sure you have Live Updating selected in the playlist definition. In between syncs, if you leave the music playlist and play anything else, the recently played songs will drop out of the playlist (but remain on your Nano). Once you re-sync the played songs will be removed from your iPod, provided that no other playlist keeps them on.

ipods only remember where you left off if you were just resently in it.

Thanks, guys. At least I know I'm not going nuts. Seems like such a simple thing, but maybe it can't be done because of automatic updates or something.
