This sucks, there seems to be no way that I can get an audiobook for my new iPod, I have no credit card and my parents refuse to let me use theirs. Does anyone know a way that I can get audiobooks without a credit card or any tips on talking my parents into letting me use theirs?

77hours 26 minutes till iPod is mine

Why won't your parents let you use their credit card? What I do is save up the cash first, and then give it to my parents, and then they will let me buy stuff with their credit card.

I don't know why they won't let me...my dad says that he doesn't like giving his credit card out over the internet

!EDIT: see post below. iTunes prepaid cards now available! No credit card required!

well, the whole world revolves around credit cards over the internet these days, so your're just gonna have to bring him up to speed. I'm sure your Visa card has protection against theft or fraud so no need to worry. And Audible and iTunes are secure systems from well established companies. Everyone knows Apple and Audible was started in 1995.

If he's concerned about you wasting money uncontrollably, show him how he can buy a book for you on Audible.com. If you show him Audible, I think he will see what a valuable service it is and he will probably be encouraged by your desire to learn and read! Next thing you know, he'll be wanting his own iPod.

If that don't work, find some CD's that he likes, rip them into iTunes, put them on your iPod, and let him have a go at it! No one can resist the iPod once they've experienced it!

Good luck

Or, after you've saved your money, ask your parents for an American Express Gift Card )http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,16126,00.asp?aexp_nav=shopgiftcheq (http://)) that then can be used on the 'Net for your book purchase.

Isn't audible a part of amazon.com? I thought that amazon took other forms of payment, like checks and such?

Were you interested in joining audible or just getting one book? I think that they have get one free book offers running all the time in which case you don't need to pay anyone.

I already replied to your question a couple days ago when you posted the same question in another thread. Maybe you missed it.

Tell your dad to notice the pearl necklace and diamond earrings that the waitress is wearing courtesy of his credit card next time he charges at a restaurant.

Seriously, credit card transactions at restaurants, stores, anywhere someone puts their hands on the card is far more dangerous than a sercure web site.

Doesn't he doesn't want you to read (while you exercise or engage in other wholesome -- or boring -- activities) is another argument. Darn shame to preclude a young person's interest in reading good books (you are going for good books, aren't you?),=.

Perhaps letting him choose or see the books you choose before they are paid for would work.

On the other hand, Audible keeps the credit card number on file to charge against memberships, the least expensive way to buy books, so that the credit card is there whenever you want to use it. He will not like that.

You could ask audible if they would let you put up $120 for Ultimate Listener Plan (12 book credits usable at any time over two years) with out holding your Dad's credit card number. Lots of cash for a young person, though.

Sticky situation, all right.

Good luck.

Apple just introduced prepaid cards for the iTunes Music store.

So if you don't have a credit card, you can buy prepaid cards at Target (or wherever else they start selling them) in increments of $15.

With the iTunes prepaid card, you can purchase Audible books from the iTunes website.

Everybody smile now :)

The Target gift cards might be the best solution for the kids who can?t use Dad?s credit card. iTunes also has an allowance feature that would allow Dad to allocate a specific amount each month for his kid?s purchases.
Audible is strictly a credit card business now, but I?ll pass this along to some of my colleagues as food for thought.

Wonder if this can be used to set up a monthly account so that Danny and his young friends can get better pricing? Does iTunes offer any of the monthly plans? Isn'tiTunes price for audible books well over the $10 per book for the monthly or Ultimate Listener plans -- like Audible's retail price?

The iTunes cards are sold in $15 increments.

So if you want to buy a $30.00 book without a credit card, you could use two iTunes Prepaid cards.

iTunes doesn't sell subscription plans. They sell individual books, just like with songs and albums.
