Does the 20GB iPod come with a power adapter? I know it charges via FireWIire, but I thought Apple may be providing power adapters for them.

Yep, all iPods come with an AC power adapter.
Plus, in case you didn't know, the AC adapters from the Gen1 & Gen2 iPods work with the Gen3 iPods and visa versa. The cords are different, but the AC adapters are identical.
