I understand and have had experience with earbuds/headphones shorting out and getting static in one earbud but I just got the nano like 3 weeks ago and I refuse to play rock music on it so it doesn't blow out the speakers and yet the brand new earbuds are staticky in the left earbud. Its the buds because they are the same on my other iPod, but could the iPod nano be doing it? I've played at 50 or below volume. Can iPods blow out speakers as a defect or something? Does it make it too hot and then it doesn't work? I just want to know before I put my other iPod earbuds in it incase those do the same thing. The static is annoying.
I am using the Apple stock earbuds that came with the nano. I'm wondering if the iPod itself can short out the earbuds, since it is the buds that are the problem, and I had played no rock music on them and had less than 50% volume. Were they faulty or can the nano break them?

You need to post which earbuds you are using since the problem could be the buds. I have never had the problem but I don't use the Apple earbuds. You should try using different earbuds and see if you have the same problem.

Its the Apple earbuds that came with it, the stock ones. The earbuds are static in that ear, I tried it on my other iPod and it was the same thing. My main concern is if its the iPod nano itself that is shorting out the earbuds, and is that possible. I think I read once that someone's iPod was heating up every pair of headphones he used and it broke them all. If that is true or not I'm not sure, can the iPod do that? I want to make sure before putting other one's in it. But yes, it is the buds themselves that are static now, I tried them in a few different players.
Would Apple replace them? I've had them for 3 weeks now, with no rock music played, and with volume below 50%.

I got off the phone with Apple and they said they'll replace them. The woman also said it could be the nano doing it, and after I told her that I literally have to pull hard to get the earbuds out of the nano she wanted me to send the nano in. Since it was refurbished I thought it was thoroughly tested. I'm starting to think that when Apple put it back together they made it too tight and so it is crushing the earbud jack a bit, thus making them produce static. I have to push hard to put them in too.
