Strange screeching sound from dead ipod

I've had my nano since december 2005, obviously not under warranty anymore. I purchased a speaker dock and plugged my ipod in. It worked for a song or two then i think it fried my ipod. Ipod stopped working alltogether. Plugged it into my wall charger, apple screen comes on then makes loud screeching sound. Plugged it into my computer and it does the same thing. It does nothing when it's not plugged in. I don't know what to do!

There is obviously some conflict between the parts inside your iPod, since this problem creeps up only when you try to charge it. It could be due to a faulty hard drive. The best thing to do is to hand it over to apple for repairs. You could also consider getting a new one instead.
