I tried in the ear style but I dont like the feeling of having something in my ear that deep. Can anyone recommend a good pair of earbud style ones that sit like the original iPod ones. I have a pair of Sony E818s but I want something a bet more high quality.

How about something more easy to find.

Not exactly the same style, but I have been using Audio Technica's ATH-EC7's for more than a year and LOVE them. Well worth the price in my book.

He said he doesn't want anything in the ear.
Audio-Technica ATH-CM7ti Titanium Stick might be good for you. The Audio Technica ATH-EC7 are good as well.

You can find Yuin PK2 here. http://www.head-direct.com/index.php?option=com_headdirect&Itemid=13&func=detail&id=2 It also have couples of good reviews about it.

Another good option is the V-Moda Class M Remix earbuds: http://www.v-moda.com/collection/modaphones/remix%20mclass.aspx

They have more bass emphasis than the Yukin Pk2. I have both and like them very much.

I'll vouch for the V-Moda Remix as well. Definitely an improvement over the Apple buds all around sound-wise, plus I like their style.

I'll also affirm the suggestion for the Audio-Technica EC7s. They're not cheap but the sound quality is great and they are very comfortable and stay on your ears well. The only thing is that the buds seem so fragile that I'm afraid to take them around with me.

They aren't fragile at all. I destroyed one set by getting the cord caught and severed in a stupid, avoidable incident, but the buds themselves are tanks. I take mine everywhere and barring a repeat of my unfortunate accident with the one set, expect them to last at least a couple of years with heavy, daily use based on my 11+ months with the first pair and 6+ months with my current pair.

Sony MDR-E888

At this point, I've got to try both the Yuin PK2 and the Sony MDR-E888 phones. My "tanks" developed a short in the left earbud (NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!), so while they're off for warranty repair I ordered both the PK2 and E888 earphones.

The Yuin PK2 are amazing, and their price just makes them more amazing. Best soundstage I've ever heard in a earbud as well as the tightest bass. I prefer the sound signature on the ATH-EC7s a bit better since it comes across as more accurate, but that increased accuracy comes at a $40 premium. My only complaint with the PK2 is the cord lengths are just barely long enough.

The E888 did sound nice, very similar accuracy and sound signature to the ATH-EC7s, but entirely too futzy about positioning in the ears for my tastes. Position them just so and, yeah, great sound. Turn your head to look at something so they moved a bit and, bleah, might as well be $10 buds. They went back.

So, I'll revise what I said above to say Audio Technica ATH-EC7 or Yuin PK2. You can't go wrong with either as far as comfort, sound, etc. goes.

I just gotta chime in on the PK2s as I also don't like in-ear phones. They really sound fantastic and are plenty tough besides. I've had mine now for a few months and carry them wrapped around the pod's case, in and out of my metal zippered leather jacket pocket five or six times a day, plus they've gotten yanked a couple of times, and they are fine. They work really well with stock Radio Shack foam pads. It's interesting that Monkey thought the cord is too short, because it's a few inches longer than the stock iPod phones, which admittedly I think is ideal length. The cord is neither stringy nor stiff and doesn't have that sticky rubbery feel so many phones have. My only complaint about them is that they come in this fancy wooden box, with some useless (but solid) cylindrical case which no one will ever use, plus a gold plated full size jack adaptor which no one will use either, or if they need it they'll have it already. If those items were eliminated they could probably knock $20 off the already very reasonable price. Don't worry about their being hard to find, ordering from head-direct works fine and you will have them in a week. As a bonus, they are black, nondescript and thus stave off podjackers! :-) Yeah, I like these phones.
