Hello,

I'm using an Intel PIII 800Mhz on a Asus TUSL-2C M/B with Windows XP SP1 installed.

My firewire/USB2 PCI card is the Adaptec combo AUA-3020.

When I try to install the iPod with the CD-ROM, the PC crashes as soon as I plug the iPod in the dock station (connected via the firewire cable).
I then get a BSOD with the following reference :

"0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x804ea218, 0xf8bcda4c, 0xf8bcd74c)".

I don't have easyCd Creator installed (as I read this may interfere), and all the PCI slots seem to be bus-powered (bus master ?) according to the M/B doc.

I can't get the iPod installed on my PC as it keeps crashing as soon as I dock it in.

Does anybody have an idea about this problem ?

Thank you, it's been 6 days since I bought my iPod and I still can't use it !

Try this, it works for me: take out your cd. Go to device manager and uninstall your cd-rom drive. Restart your computer. Your cd-rom will re-install automatically. This should fix BSOD problem. Now go back to device manager. Disable your cd-rom drive. Now go the ipod.com and download the latest updater. Now plug your ipod into your computer, let the updater restore and update. Now use Itunes or whatever you're using to put music on your Ipod. Unplug the Ipod from the computer. Go back to device manager, enable your Cd-rom.

If this solves your problem, then you have the same problem I have--the Ipod conflicts with the Cd-rom and everytime you plug in the ipod it will crash/BSOD. The fix I'm using for now is to disable my cd-rom drive everytime I need to plug in the ipod, then enable it after unplugging. Go figure.

I tried your tips but it doesn't help. BTW which Cd-Rom do you have?

I finally made it to install the iPod Software on my PC. I just skipped the iPod configuration which required to dock the iPod.
This way the installation went to the end without crashing the PC.

But the symptom is still the same. Whenever I dock the iPod, I get the BSOD message.

I tried to change the PCI slot of the Adaptec combo card, even the IRQ, and it doesn't work either.
What is weird is that I can plug a Dv Cam (Panasonic) in the firewire card and it's fully working, no crash.

The only other firewire device I have is the iPod, and this one makes the PC crash.

Don't know if there is a link with this, but I tried to unplugg all my USB devices to check if one of them was interfering with the firewire/iPod, it didn't change at all. BUT, when I plugged my Compact Flash card reader back, Windows XP crashed while reinstalling its drivers, with the same 0x0000007 BSOD. And now I can't get these drivers reinstalled again.

Any idea of what may cause this BSOD ?

Well, at the end I found what is interfering with my iPod connexion.
No driver at all or PCI slot matter. The answer is Kaspersky Antivirus Pro 4.0.5.13 !!

I booted and rebooted the PC activing each Windows XP Service one after another, and the one who crashes the PC while docking the iPod is KAV.

Actually, KAV is divided into two Windows services :
- AVP Control Centre Service (this one is ok when activated)
- KAV Monitor Service (it's THE service responsible for the crashes).

Few weeks ago I already had problems with KAV Monitor and USB hot unplugging, as "Check removable media" was active in the program preferences, and was crashing the PC every time I unplugged any USB device (BSOD). I unchecked this option and USB hot unplugging just works fine since then.

Now I have to figure out what is interfering in the KAV Monitor preferences with the iPod while being docked with firewire, and causing the BSOD.

Work in progress !! :)

Well, I found no options in KAV Monitor that would keep the PC from crashing.
More over, stopping KAV Monitor from the AVP Control Centre is not enough to prevent Windows XP from the BSOD.

The only option I found to have the iPod working properly for now is opening "msconfig", unchecking the "KAV Monitor Service", applying and rebooting the PC.

Then AVP Control Centre indicates on the next boot that KAV Monitor has been stopped by user, but at least docking and using the iPod is possible.

If anybody find another solution, please let me know!

get norton antivirus. it's cheap, and works well. afaik it works with ipods.
