Is this normal?
I only realized when one day, suddenly the PC restarted with the iPod connected to it and it erased all the music.
Can anybody help in any way?

I've had a Creative 20 gig MP3 Player and it only heal 18.6 gig, and my 30 gig iPod only holds 27 some gig, so it seems normal. Hope that helps ya.

That's because Apple reports the iPods' capacity in decimal gigabytes (GB, 10^9, or 1,000,000,000 bytes), while you computer calculates capacity in what are actually called gibibytes, or binary gigabytes (GiB, 2^30, or 1,073,741,824 bytes). Since each (decimal) gigabyte does not quite fill an entire (binary) gibibyte, your 30GB will be reported by the computer as 27.9GiB, because it actually is. Most people don't know the word gibibyte (or kibibyte, mebibyte, etc.), however, so for most applications, including how your computer reports the space, the word "gigabyte" is still used, even though it is somewhat inaccurate.
